Hi,

Soon I may need to use an entry-level Zgemma box on my local network.

The room where Zgemma is does not have an Ethernet cable connection and I would rather avoid using a wi-fi stick because I will need the port for a USB memory.

What is best to replace the wi-fi connection with?

Would an access point located near the box and connnected to it with an Ethernet cable do the job?

Hi,

Yes you can use an external access point (try the bridged mode) connected in Ethernet to the Zgemma to have a WiFi access and you won't have to fight with USB driver to make it working.  ;)

But you will need to power supply it.

Not CLIENT mode by any chance?

Now I have a wireless TP-LINK router and all I need is for Zgemma to connect to it using its Ethernet port but there is no cabling in the room.

In bridged mode the Access Point will connect to the WiFi and let pass-through all the request from the STB. So the STB will get a DHCP address from the same range has the rest of the network.  If the Access Point doesn't support it, then you will need to enable its DHCP feature and create another network between the AP ethernet and your STB. So since the STB and the rest of your network will be in different network you will need to add a specific route for it.

But you can also use broadband over power line (BPL) adapter, you will need 2 of them one for the STB and another one where you can connect it to an Ethernet port. This is working fine, I use this solution at my parent's home.

Remember you can use the front usb for wifi also.

I share my guest wifi with a neighbour and this adapter works fine.
