Hi,

Using WiFi USB dongle is a kind of lottery (depending mainly on kernel version of your receiver) so:

I wonder if TP-LINK TL-WA801ND N300 would do the job.

Commercial brand doesn't mean anything under "linux" since it is the chipset which is in the device that matters (and the kernel version of the box).

I would not be a bad idea to make a wiki page about this, where anyone with a working situation can record the exact name of the dongle, the chipset, the box and the OpenPLi version used, for other people to reference.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Yes but same brand and model can have different chipset and the kernel version (and compilation option) is also important and this one evolve in time (except for old boxes) so will be hard to maintain up-to-date and to be sure to provide a relevant information.

Same applies too for DVB tuners which face the same constraint.

Yes, that is why I wrote the chipset should be included too. In general, once a chipset is supported, it is unlikely support will be removed in newer versions of OpenEmbedded.

Yes, but the one I quoted is not a USB Wi-Fi dongle. It is an access point, which you suggest as a preferred solution.

An access point only works if it can work in client mode, which according to https://www.tp-link....#specifications it does.
