Been told this box will be available soon from Zgemma, but i could not find any info about.

Do you have any info here if this box is on the way, or this is just dreaming from some people telling me?

Regards

I haven't heard anything about a new Zgemma box. But that doesn't say much... ;)

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

I am also informed that new boxes with double/triple tuner will come. But no more info.

This is also one of the reasons why I posted about the problems with H9 with OpenPLI which should be fixed with the already in June released bsp-layer. When the double/triple tuners are coming it would be nice to have a good working OpenPLI image.

But it is good! Testing in progress...

Most stuff works fine here, even smooth PiP witnessed... :)

Kodi (Audio) is not OK, mind...

But other stuff seems fine!

DVD Player is not, sadly.

Tested Octagon SF8008 same processor with this Zgemma, did not like the box at all, bad picture quality, look like chip android 4k box, kodi was working ok, but i could not taste all the features, sold the box quickly, Hisilicon processor is total crap.

Gorski what do you think, is it worth buying one of this or not?

Thanks

The processor of the SoC is not involved in image processing.

And digital is digital, the bits are the same whether you send them through a $10 or a $1000 chip. Your configuration could be different through, especially if you have it configured so it has to scale.

One thing I can say is that various boxes give various quality images by default, so one must mess with video parameters to get what one wants... That's reality!

In Zgemma H9/H9.2 series we now have extended video settings - it matters not if they listened to me but I added my name to the requests...

I have various boxes on the same TV and I know why I asked for it.

Various boxes with the same HiSilicone SoC behave differently with the same plugin, doing the same thing, I suppose for various reasons - at least from what I read (I only have Zgemmas but people I know have other boxes with the same HiSilicon SoC). Different FW, drivers, images etc. I don't know, I am not a coder. But I can test and see clearly what works and what doesn't.

Kodi, for instance, has audio problems but E2iPlayer and PurE2 FNC plugins, plus internal player do not. Go figure... Do you need Kodi on it? I don't, so your answer depends on your needs, ergo there is not a single answer to that Q...

I been selling satellite receivers for 15 years, I have tested all kind, from the cheaper ones to most expensive, no longer sell now, due to not much work, just repair, but my passion for satellite receiver will die with me, not expert on the field to why some boxes have great picture quality some not, but for the particular Hisilicon processor been told by expert that picture quality is no good at all, it is not real 4K, maybe are other components on the box, is like cheap android boxes 4k they are not 4k at all, the price is very low for boxes with this Hisilicon processor, is nearly the same with other enigma 2 full hd box, I will maybe test one in the future and let you know, I have Zgemma H5 at the moment and the picture quality is Great.

You must test Openpli 7.0 it plays pretty much all audio good on Kodi.

I think it's far out the best Enigma2 kodi player of all. An enigma2 box can not quickly compete with real kodi player but this comes very near.

DVD player under PLi works fine by me. What is it that doesn't work by you?

I think you mean the older chipsets from Hisilicon which were advertise as 4K android boxes but had actually quality of 1080p with somekind of upscaler to maximum 2160p25.

The Enigma2 boxes now in the market are real 4K support with 3798MV200 chipset and actually have better specs for video output then the Broadcoms.

In the end it's own opinion which someone likes better. My vote goes defently at the moment to Hisilicon

As I said elsewhere, one should carefully test, adding one item at a time and testing it seriously before adding another...

Why? Because I had all sorts "competing" for the same space (Kodi, E2iPlayer, FNC Plugins, serviceapp, my image comes with ffmpegh package etc.)...

So, from scratch, as ordered by WTE! :D

OK, testing openpli-7.0-rc-h9-20181218_usb

No device manager that I can find. Wrongly detected mSD as SSD. Managed to send recording and timeshift to HDD, as well as EPG to USB.

Downloaded and installed a couple of extensions (DreamExplorer, Device Manager etc.).

Moved everything (root) to mSD card via a script. Loooong reboot...waaaaaiiitiiinnggg... no go... restart button at the back...

Ahem, dunno why but it did not work... must do everything from scratch... oych...

OpenPLi, can you get the script into your image by default, please?

Delfi sent the pull request on the developer's GIT...

So, all done from zero, very little added, just minimally done for easy functioning, ergo a "virgin installation of OpenPLi 7, settings done, testing the internal player via FILE LIST button, so DVD Player and Media Player, I guess, first from USB attached HDD...

DVD Eric Clapton "One more car, one more rider" - AC3 audio channel not working. DTS works but only after I switch off Multi Channel downmix and then switch it back on.

I went back into the menu to chack precisely, so I could write it here and when I got out of the menu the sync was gone and it was bad...

Getting in and especially out is followed by a big black flicker (nothing on the screen for about a second).

Bebe mais DVD - AC3 not working. Tried the same trick as above - sounds started but it was so wickedly cut at about 100 miles an hour it was impossible to discern anything at all...

Exiting to a TV channel - one more big black blackout for 1-2 secs...

Going back to FILE LIST > Babylon5 The lost tales-Voices n the dark.avi -> dark screen... If I press Audio (or MENU) button, weirdly, I get the image in PiG window... I press OK to go back to full screen and video is gone again...

From NAS

Phil Collins in Paris DVD > no audio, AC3 or LPCM. No trick brought about the sound, this time, except as with "Bebe Mais"...

Paco de Lucia - Anos de Flamenco - again no sound (MPEG) and nothing could get it... Concierto de Aranjuez as well...

Joe Satriani and co. G3 "Live in Denver" avi - no video... Sound is OK (MPEG3).

And so on... Just some of the problems I ran into on quick inspection...

So, I would say there are problems with this machine - what exactly? Dunno, not a coder but I know what I see/hear and no amount of "it's the best ever" will change these issues, I'm afraid... There are problems there which need to be addressed, as far as I am concerned.

My H7S has considerably fewer issues, I must say.

(Good news: PV works with OSCam Emu from OpenPLi feed, just wait on 9E AFN channel you have the signal for... ;) 4.8E not yet...)

As I said, one step at a time... Installed Kodi (repos are not well supported these days, I couldn't install all that much but this has nothing to do with the STB at hand!)...

Take 1: Live TV Serbia (streaming) > Croatia > HRT1 > froze it all, had to reboot from the back button...

Retry... The same on HRT2, frozen solid, sadly... Button at the back...

Take 3: Croatia > RTL1 - worked for a little while, then exited from the image to a menu with the cogs... video was frozen solid while audio was going... no way back to having the image => reboot at the back...

Take 4: video addons > Nicke85 free list > didn't even get to channels list let alone streaming... button at the back...

Take 5: video addons > YouTube didn't even wanna star (error...) but British Council Film gave me a menu > error after error, nothing to see... OK, CBC also error, not even getting in... Classic cinema - nada! Comedy Central - zilch! Never mind...

PLAYBACK:

HDD: Babylon5 The lost tales-Voices n the dark.avi - no image, only audio... after that the RC was unresponsive, nothing would show on the screen, only the button at the back helped...

Second attempt: DVD Eric Clapton "One more car, one more rider" - zero, not a sausage, damn...

Film noir in LA (a documentary recorded from HRT3) in TS format - wouldn't even start... And there I was stuck, couldn't do anything, button at the back again...

After reboot GSOD... Ahem...

So, then I wanted to see a bit behind the scenes:

So, it seems to me OpenPLi Team need to implement that script to move the root to mSD or USB stick...

Hell, I'll try to do it again now...

A 200MB rootfs partition on a modern box? That is very small, even a low end as the Amiko Viper has double the space...

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

I am surprised you do not know this, WW, as after all this is a box that OpenPLi supports and I am testing OpenPLi 7 image...

As I said, Delfi has the solution for mSD or USB (the first one we found on OpenATV and that was only for mSD) - please, feel free to implement the script...

I will include the script here...

I edited the original "how to" with additional info, thanx to Terrajoe!

Here is a slightly edited "tutorial" from a non-IT person's perspective...

========================EXPANDING ZGEMMA H9 FLASH TO MICRO SD CARD=====================

ZGEMMA H9 has a 256 MB Flash, so serious hobbyists need to expand its Flash. There are 2 ways:

1) Flash Expander E2 plugin, to a fast USB 3.0 stick (I wrote in detail about it on this forum and elsewhere) or

2) the following script moving it all from the flash to a fast Micro SD memory card (Zgemma H9 Flodder, as it were... ).

Various Micro SD cards have been tested: class4, class 10 and class A1. In principle, they are all working but not all Micro SD cards
will work.

HOW TO CHECK IF A MICRO SD CARD IS OK FOR FLASH EXPANSION WITH ZGEMMA H9
================================================== =======================

Insert the Micro SD card into Zgemma H9 and reboot the box. Check the /var/logs/message file, using the PuTTy app. Log in by writing:

root
password - for an image you use (for example "pure2" for PurE2 image [without "" signs]).

Now, copy and paste this telnet command into PuTTy:

cat /var/log/messages | grep mmcblk0:

If you see these messages:

Apr 6 19:28:13 zgemmah9t user.info kernel: mmcblk0: mmc0:59b4 USDU1 7.31 GiB
Apr 6 19:28:13 zgemmah9t user.info kernel: mmcblk0: p1

or

May 20 13:25:49 zgemmah9s user.info kernel: mmcblk0: mmc0:aaaa SC64G 59.5 GiB
May 20 13:25:49 zgemmah9s user.info kernel: mmcblk0: p1

...then you can proceed..

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++LET'S DO IT===============================

Download the "H9 SDcard Mover" attached to this message.

Extract the zip file and copy all 3 files to Zgemma H9 /tmp folder, using FileZilla Client app, for instance.

Now, right click on h9_mmc.sh file > File permissions > 755 > OK.

Warning: all data on your Micro SD card will be lost when your start this script!

Start the script by the following 2 telnet commands:

cd /tmp

./h9_mmc.sh

Reboot the box and wait for the script to move everything to Micro SD card.

Your Zgemma H9 just got a boost!

Just remember that there is a small price to pay: your flash is larger but the Zgemma H9 might be a bit slower than if everything
is running from H9 flash alone.

================================================== =====================

How to go back to a previous state of things (rollback to rootfs, to NAND)?

Simply flash a new image.

================================================== =====================

P.S. Do not mount Micro SD card using pManager (in PurE2 or any kind of Device Manager in any other Enigma2). Then, the script can't
umount it. Once I unmounted it, using pManager - it worked!

WW, I am trying to remove some plugins, so I have some space to put the script to good use, alas the PLUGINS > red button does not work... After I removed 2 manually - there is no difference, still 0% free space...

Btw, free command does not work in OpenPLi...

And the script needs editing for PLi...

I am surprised you do not know this, WW, as after all this is a box that OpenPLi supports and I am testing OpenPLi 7 image...

I have a entire cupboard full of boxes, and if I had 30 days a week, I might come around to using them all on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, that is not the case, but my time and my mental capacity (due to illness) in that time is limited.

Might be related to http://www.linux-mtd...tml#L_df_report

Btw, free command does not work in OpenPLi...

It was removed a long time ago, as it was constantly mis-used by N00bs to complain, while the output of free is completely useless if you don't know exactly how Linux works. For those that do: cat /proc/meminfo.
