Thanx from a noob...
Hmm, I'd put you on a higher shelf than that.
Hope you get better soon!
Hope is always good, but unfortunately this looks like permanent damage, haven't been able to work for 4 years...

I know people who were very close to dying in agony. One of them, for example, got onto a clinical trial at Hammersmith hospital and he lives well and fully!
In my family I have such examples, too. I do know what it is like, in principle... I nearly died as a 3-year old and yet...
Given the advances in medicine, science and technology - which are gathering pace ever so frantically...
Never give up!!! Hope you'll get there...

I forgot: if I remember correctly I started scanning DVB-T2, which only gave me a very small number of channels. In effect, only the TPs with HD channels.
Therefore, I had to do another scan, DVB-T, to get the lot (I hope it was the lot)...
I compare with OpenATV and PurE2, where a single scan gives me 176 channels.

I won't. I'm happy to have OpenPLi to keep both myself and my brain a bit active.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, for the record:
1) I prefer OpenPLi in older, weaker boxes, it's leaner, faster and one can find a way to make it work...
2) This machine only has 256 MB of flash but OpenPLi is just not working on it, sadly...
Back to PurE2 where it works way better, from the script to move it all to mSD (or USB) onwards...

Nobody has complained sofar that the H9 doesn't work, or that OpenPLi doesn't on the H9. No OpenPLi image is 200MB in size.

Ehhh... No need to close down, m8...
Facts
I know what I see and I know what I read on various forums, even here. H9 has a number of problems, with drivers in particular, especially re. playback and streaming but also with some decoding (PV, for instance could be improved, ask WTE who got the files from me and sent it to the dev team), not to mention HW limitations (small flash).
So, the devs team should improve their part, whatever they can (lately they got an impetus from PurE2 Team to sort out the flash-extending-issue, for instance). But HiSilicon should also improve their part (HiSIlicon Service, codecs on HW level, some drivers[?] etc.). And OpenPLi their part, too. You could start by listening to me re. the script to move the root to mSD/USB, since I know of it, simply because the latest one I helped with a bit (Delfi sorted it out, I just found a way, not being a coder, I searched for a solution [for the first one I edited the tutorial for it])... That would make OpenPLi, broadly speaking, "comfortable" (read 'usable') in H9 models with only 256MB flash.
Which player?
HiSilicon Service could be at the heart of all manner of playback/streaming issues, if we listen to some good coders...
FFmpeg comes with E2iPlayer, Kodi, ServiceApp, some other plugins, some images come with it, some do not...
But the structure of it all might be an issue, too. Which part can we, as an open source community add to and how exactly - because not all of it is open to our coders?
Co-operation necessary
To me, the complexity added to the story, with those "competing" [similar/almost the same] libs, is equivalent to competing egos of coders who keep pointing a finger at each other, instead of working together so each side sorts out their part of the story. Can you see all of yous co-ordinating tasks, so there is no needless clashing...?!? No? There you have it...
In other words, who is going to do that? Perhaps manufacturers only? And even then... dunno...
What am I trying to do?
I am trying to help get the problem recognised, so it could be addressed. But honestly speaking, it's a Sisyphus-like task... No one wants to here "There is a problem (or a number of problems) with XYZ"!
On one side, I have tribal-like fans saying "it is awesome" and then there are those saying "it's rubbish" on the other side, usually tribally sticking by another manufacturer. Very few are open-minded and critically centred, so the truth does not die as the first victim in the process... I end up being a suspect, by manufacturers and teams alike... Seriously, I am starting to suspect some masochist tendencies in meself...
Concretely re. OpenPLi 7 that I tested
OpenPLi 7 is 139MB on a USB stick, you tell me how much space does it take on flash?
Add to it 12 LNBs (=14 satellite positions) strong channel list, Device Manager, OSCam Emu and config, Dreamexplorer - and it is still able to playback a bit, plus move things to mSD (it didn't work ultimately but OK, at least it moved it all, even if it didn't boot).
If you add Kodi (and a few addons) to it, you can forget moving anything to mSD, plus playback and streaming are terrible. Then, H9 flash is maxed out.
Comparisons are needed
Now, I installed PurE2 and I am testing and of course things are better since I can move it all to mSD easily, efficiently and it works/boots. But similar results are present when it comes to problems I mentioned above, in relation to OpenPLi 7, when it could work (without Kodi).
What I also hear from other guys who have different boxes with the same HiSilicon SoC is that they do not behave the same. So, logically, one should trace the differences to.... drivers? What?
But one should do this if one wants to have a successful product (HW/drivers/kernel/image(s)/scripts/plugins/tools/etc.).
What if you are not a coder but you can think logically?
I am but a hobbyist, not a tech guy and this is my limitation. However, I am a social scientist and I know a few things about logic and methodology. So, is this not a reasonable manner in which to try to help, at least if one is a beta tester but not a coder, like me...???
Good luck to us all trying to make it a success...
And I do try, IN GOOD FAITH, NON-TRIBALLY, from talking to the manufacturers onwards, all the way to you, guys...

I really thought the days of the flash extenders would be over for some time now? It's an ugly workaround for a combination of a cheap receiver with a small flash and a user that doesn't really know what he's doing.

Oh, dear... Guys, you are supporting the box, FCOL...
1) Yes, I get 176 channels in Cambridge, UK area. I use:
MENU > SETUP > Service searching > Tuner configuration > Tuner A > DVB-T2, enabled, UK, all regions (DVB-T/T2).
Then, I go to Manual scan > Tuner A > Complete > All regions, UK (EU DVB-T/T2), network scan to YES, plus 2 no's (in PurE2).
2) PurE2 is an heir to PowerBoard, a member of OE-A. OE-A has the code for it, so just use it, guys...
3) Yes, Flash Expander is an old thing, when you can't move the root to a USB stick/mSD card. Which is what this script does, like Flodder for some old DBs.
4) The script I attached in this thread is the first one, with "Readme" edited by me, adding additional, crucial information (how to trigger the move via telnet command) - thanx to Terrajoe, a PurE2 coder.
5) However, when things have changed, it had to be tweaked and Delfi and I worked one night to find the solution. I merely searched the net for similar problems and possible solution suggestions, since I am not a coder. I was lucky, I ran into something promising and Delfi (another PurE2 coder, the guy who sorted out the Kodi in Wetek implementation, ported E2 to Alien5 etc. etc.), recognised it and re-coded it, so one can now do it not only to mSD card but also USB stick AND back. His pull request is in Zgemma's dev GIT, a link is provided in my posts, too.
All you need to do is just implement it...
It's a must for this box!
Good luck!

In Opera it worked, I could post without interference, additional text, my text being cut etc.
In FirefoxESR it didn't.

We're overdue a forum software upgrade, but so far no time for it. And it means at least half a day of downtime for the site, so we're reluctant to do it over Xmas...
