I think there is a setpassword plugin in the feed. Or use Telnet command “passwd”.
But better use a VPN, if it’s possible for you. It’s much saver.

Changing port is not a security measure at all I can retrieve any OpenWebif connected to the Internet thanks to a very simple Google search even if the port is changed!

You cannot change or define a specific username / password to access OpenWebif, everything is running as root so you need to use root and your root password.

If you defined another user it will need to have the same right as root so again this is useless.

Accessing the OpenWebif from the internet is a very bad idea, never do it, except if you properly setup a VPN. You had been warned.

Just forward a port on your router to the port of the box if you want your box get hacked... you always can forward a different port than 80 to port 80 to your box so no change in port required at all...

How ?

Eg search for
intitle:"open webif" "Linux set-top-box"
And you will find a couple of e2 receivers without password protection. But even with password protection it’s not save as the webif or any other component on the box might have security holes.

My God !!!

I've searched for intitle: "open webif" and I''ve found dozens of OPEN boxes.

I've found no box with password. What are people doing ?????

In one of the powered on boxes, the user was watching Hustler HD channel. :D

I've been tempted to zap….

"Never touch a running system". Some people still use very old images which wouldn't be very bad if they wouldn't use port forwarding...
