I want to build a TVersity client for the Dreambox.
Does anyone has the same idea (or already done that)
or want to join me? Please let me know.

TVersity is a mediaserver which runs on a Windows computer
and can act as a gateway, or streaming server for almost any
content. It can convert video and audio streams on-the-fly to lets say mpeg2.

Theoretically the Dreambox can sink the mpeg2 stream, which
allow us to view almost any (internet) content on a TV by using the Dreambox.
Playing Youtube content directly on a TV.... etc...

New televisions of Philips, the game console Sony Playstation 3
and Microsoft XBOX can already use TVersity directly.

So, I think this is a exciting new subject to work on.

based on this i assume you're talking about a upnp-client? afaik that's been done already, i haven't tried it myself though.

If you have some directions / links on the subject. please do PM me.

Thanks.

In the latest PLi images the DJmount client is provided:

I'm not sure how well it works but it might provide you a basis for further tailoring. ;)

I've also been busy with upnp lately. It is certainly a very interesting standard. It allows far greater interoperability with all sorts of devices than is possible right now. Right now streaming is 'redone' for each client, ie. PS3, xbox, re-stream to internet. With an implementation of a mediaserver, mediarenderer and controlpoint on the dreambox, this won't be necessary.

I've added libupnp, libdlna and ffmpeg (credits go to you, as I used your ./configure settings) to the Makefile.am on CDK in my own dev environment. But that's how 'far' I got ;)

djmount is a upnpclient which provides a virtual filesystem through which you can access your mediaservers. For your purpose it might be enough. It's already available for the dreambox.

Today I continued this project having great succes!

These steps were made to make it all work on a DM600pvr.

1) I installed tversity out-of-the-box on a Windows XP computer.

2) Installed djmount on the dreambox:

# ipkg install djmount

3) Starting djmount on the dreambox after making a directory (mountpoint):

# mkdir /mnt/av
# djmount /mnt/av

4) Restarted tversity, after which djmount discovered the service

If this does not work for the first time (my case),

you can start djmount using debug mode # djmount -d /mnt/av

5) Use the file-mode of your pli software to "navigate" to /mnt/av

All Audio, Video en Images files should be there.

More on this subject in the coming days. (maybe add it to the wiki)

Sorry to drag up an old thread .. Great work btw..

While I can get this to work perfectly on audio streams, I can not find a video client for the E1 OE boxes. It even works great on a video streams audio (but no video of course) Was there ever a video client?
It's a hobby, so mileage varies Tell your friends about our Pli Wiki as it is there to help you - Click here for the PLi Wiki
