Which one is the best Sat.Receiveer, VU+ Ultimo 4K or VU+ Duo 4K? or are there any other that is better?

VU+ Ultimo has place for a 3.5" hdd, have more memory, has 2 smart readers and 2 CI slots, and it also have place for 3 tuner cards.

VU+ Duo has only one smart reader, no place for a 3.5" hdd but it has a much faster CPU 4x2100MHz while Ultimo only has 4x1500MHz.

But are there any other differencies? Does Ultimo 4K have many features that Uno 4K don't have ?

Most tuners and support for 3.5" HDD drives, but also bad support: Vu+ Ultimo 4k

Probably best value for money: GigaBlue UE 4k or with a bit mor luxury GigaBlue Quad 4k

Plus there are plenty of cheap ass receivers nowadays ...

1st box: Vu+ Ultimo 4k 4xDVB-S2 FBC / 2xDVB-C / 1.8 TB HDD / OpenATV 6.2
2nd box: Gigablue Quad 4k 2xDVB-S2 FBC / 2xDVB-C / 1.8 TB HDD / OpenATV 6.2
testing boxes: Vu+ Duo² + AX Quadbox HD2400 + 2x Vu+ Solo² + Octagon SF4008
Sats & Pay-TV: Astra 19.2°E + Hotbird 13°E with Redlight / SCT HD / SES Astra HD- / Sky V14 / 4th empire propaganda TV
Card-Server: Raspberry Pi + IPv6-capable oscam
Router: Linksys WRT1900ACS w/ LEDE + Fritz!Box 7390

We don't really have complaints about the support from VU+, especially not compared to the support from others, including Gigablue.

I would not advise the Duo 4K at this point, it's drivers still have some irritiating issues we are still trying to get fixed.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Hi,

by accident I found out that my Duo 4K also played h264 with more then 1080p which is the limit for most receivers. On my Duo4K I can play and stream 2560x1920 from my Reolink WiFi camera where my Ultimo4K fails. If the rest (1 reader, only 2.5 HDD) is OK for you I would also advise the Duo4K.

I will test 4K h264 this afternoon.

ciao

When you look at good support, I guess the best comparison for me are driver updates, e.g. Octagon and Vu+ issue about the same numbers but Octagon (SF8008) is to add function, Vu+ is to fix (often their fixes)..... other receivers like Mutant HD51, Zgemma H7, Giga4K's  are just solid.

.... I guess I agree with SpaceRat.....there are plenty of cheap ass receivers nowadays ... that are pretty good without paying Vu+ prices.

Gigablue Quad 4K & UE 4K, Vu+Uno4KSE, DM900
.........FBC Tuners:
------------------> GT-SAT unicable lnb to 1.5M dish(28.2E)
------------------> Gigablue unicable lnb to 80 cm dish(19.2E)

Octagon sf8008, AX HD61, Edision Osmio 4K+, Zgemma H9Combo using Legacy ports on multiswitches
Zgemma H9twin & Zgemma H9 C/S mode into Giga4K

My two uno4kse boxes work very stable since openpli 7.0 image and the incliuded drivers from VU.

No crashes, very good performance. My wife makes many recordings and in parallel movie cutting jobs and movie moving jobs. We use the boxes with two classic antenna cables to use the 8 tuners of the FBC tuner and with fallbacktuner over the second box if there is a  need of the  third SAT level for a transponder.

But I think the gigablue 4K boxes of post #2 with the same broadcom chipsets can do the same.

Hi,

Duo4K plays 4K h264 which I tested today. On the drawback it does not really play WMV anymore at least not the ones I have. Was no problem on the old VUs.

Broadcom has removed the hw support for some older codecs in the 64 Bit SoC of the Duo4k and Zero4k. That maybe the reason

I "dream" about a new VU+. I have Solo 4K, and I don't see the big difference to Ultimo 4K and Duo 4K. Waiting desperately for an upgrade.

DUO4K is faster than Ultimo4K and have probably a better cpu than Ultimo4K.

The first problem is DUO4K and the hdd and this problem could be that decide which box I buy.

I can't find any company that sells any AV hdd bigger than 1TB The only 2.5" AV hdd's that I could find is WD AV-25 WD10JUCT 16MB 1TiB and HGST Cinemastar 5K1000 HCC541010B9E360 16MB 1TB

It seems that Ultimo4K is better if I want to be able to use a 3.5" hdd and more than 2TB. Then I would by a WD Purple NV 4TB Surveillance Hard Disk Drive, WD4NPURX , 3.5"

There are maybee a solution in how to use a 3.5" hdd with DUO4K but I don't know if it's possible in a simple way.

If it is possible to connect the hdd to the DUO4K as I have done with my Dreambox 8000 then DUO4K could be the one.

I have the 3.5" hdd outside my Dreambox 8000, but it 's connected to the SATA and power connections inside the box.

The hdd is in a "4-in-3" hdd case with a 120mm fan. I have done this so that the hdd always will be cold and this also makes the box temp lower.

Dreambox have it's power supply inside the box and it can get very varm so the above solution solved that problem.

Is it possible to take away the DUO4K's hdd bay and connect sata + power cables  so that I can have the hdd as an "external" drive?

Anyway it have been better if VU+ have released an upgraded Ultimo4K box.

The second "problem": Which LNB should I buy?

It must be very good one that will work even if it's snowing very much (in the winter) or when it's raining very much. That shouldn't be a problem, but next could be.

I hope that there is one that  have 4 old type of lnb connectors + 1 Single Cable connector that have more than 24 channels,

if not I have one, with 2 old type lnb connectors + 1 single cable connector with 24 channels but I'm not shure if it can handle both types together at the same time.

It was a very good ide to move the hdd discussion to a new STICKY thread.

Thank you so much for the link . It was the first website that have the information about CMR and TMR recordings.

Now I have some more "Stupid" questions. This time is it about tuners. Dual tuners compaed with single tuner

Is a dual tuner the same as having two single tuners?

A couple years ago when the first dual tuners came (old type LNB's). Then was 1x dual tuner NOT quite the same as 2x single tuners.

If we say that one single tuner could only do 4 recordings at the same time and it also had to be from the same TV channel group.

So, with 1x single tuner I could do 4 recording from SVT but not  2 recordings from SVT and 2 recordings from TV4 at the same time.

With 2x single tuners, then I could do 4 recordings from SVT channels and 4 recordings from TV4 channels, or 8 recordings from SVT channels.

But with the dual Tuner if I do a recording of a SVT channel I couldn't do a recording from an other TV group as TV4.

So, the diffrerence was that 1x dual tuner only made that I could do more recording in total but not from more Channels.

If I wanted the later choice then I had to have  2x single or 2x dual tuner.

This is what I was told then and that why I have four single S2-tuner.

But how is it today with the FCB tuners? And we don't take any consideration to if the Sat.Box only can do x recording, so let us say the the box can do 32 recordings at the same time.

Can a  1x dual FCB tuner do twice as many recording as  1x single FCB-tuner?

Can it do it from several TV groups also ???  and not been restricted to one "Channel group" ?

And how is it when we compare 1x dual FCB-tuner with  2x single FCB-tuners ?

You have to be careful with terminology, and also take the environment into account, as it is very easy to misunderstand how things work, and misinform others who read it.

When you start with a tuner, a tuner can receive a single transponder at the time. That is true for all tuners, S, C and T.

From this it follows that if you have a module with two tuners (in marketing called dual tuners or twin tuners), you can receive two different transponders at any given time. So contrary to your statement, such is module IS identical to two single tuners.

However, if you have TWO S tuners connected to ONE cable, both tuners will be restricted to what can be transported over that single cable, which in a DiseqC setup is a single LNB quadrant, theoretically 1/4th of the available transponders. If you have a Unicable setup, you can receive two transponders, even if you have only a single cable.

If you have an FBC C module, you have 8 tuners connected to one cable, and the possibility to simultaneously receive 8 transponders. I haven't seen an FBC T module yet.

For S, it is a bit different. An FBC S module has 2 root tuners, connected to each of the inputs, and 6 leaf tuners, which are dynamically looped through on one of the root tuner inputs.

If you have a DiseqC setup, both root tuners will behave identical to a dual/twin tuner module. The 6 leaf tuners will be able to tune transponders in either of the quadrants locked by one of the root tuners, identically to having a dual/twin tuner with a single cable. If you have a Unicable setup, all 8 tuners can tune to a different transponder over a single cable (providing your setup can provide 8 SCRs).

For both twin/dual tuner S modules and FBC S modules you can mix both setups, so you can have a DiseqC setup on one tuner, and a Unicable setup on the other one. Like you can with two single tuner modules.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

I don't know if I understood correct. All this with FBC is new for me

I'm only interested in S tuners.

"For S, it is a bit different. An FBC S module has 2 root tuners, connected to each of the inputs, and 6 leaf tuners, which are dynamically looped through on one of the root tuner inputs."

Does that mean that 1 FBC module, that have 2 inputs  = 16 (2x 8) tuners ?  and with 2 FBC modules = 32 tuners

"If you have a Unicable setup, all 8 tuners can tune to a different transponder over a single cable (providing your setup can provide 8 SCRs)."

What did you mean with "providing your setup can provide 8 SCRs"

I will buy a new "One cable" LNB with with as many "User bands" as possible.  I know that there are LNB's with 3 outputs,  2x "old type" LNB output + 1 "Sat CR" output with 24 "Userbands"/Channels.

Using one cable from the Sat CR  output on the LNB and at the other end of the cable (in my living room) I use a 4-way splitter and connect to each of the four inputs on the FBC modules. Two per module.

Is that enough except for the configuration in the box? or do I need some more hardware?

The Sat. Box will probably bee Vu+ Ultimo4K or Duo4K, with 2x FBC DVB-S2x modules.

And if Ultimo4K, possibly a third module, Dual DVB-S2 tuner or a Dual DVB-C/T2 tuner. or dual DVB-T2 tuner (MTSIF).

1 DVBS2 FBC tuner has 2 Input for the use with two legacy cables or one cable with unicable. Ist has tuners so wirh unicable you need 8 unicable users for a complete use of 8 transponders.

On Vu boxes the Solo4k, uno4k and uno4kse have one FBC tuner (8 tuners) and Dreh Ultimo4k and the Duo4k can have 2 FBC tuners. Normale one FBC tuner is enough for normal DVBS users
