Streamed from Network means use of samba or nfs which means a block of non fragmemented ram is required and the drivers of dmm do not cover that properly with >=3.0 kernels..... use local harddisk instead.... when watching mkv files via this box it guaranteed will fail after a while.

So I put an mkv on the local harddisk. Instead of freezing after 5-10min, it did so after 10 seconds... doesn't seem to be a solution either.

mkv corrupt? Some you download are extremely dodgy...

No, tried with lots of different ones, from a source I have used for ages, and if I play them via Chromecast they're fine as well.

That doesn't say anything, a Chromecast is a modern media player, a DM8000 is neither of those two... It is designed to play back TS files, anything else that works is a bonus.

Still I don't suffer from any of this. Off course the driver issue in kernel >3.0 is there since I still use the same Box. I am using DreamOS (or at least what it was called then). I have both a internal HDD as wel as a formidable NAS and play A LOT of movies using the internal player. They range from DVD VOB's, MKV and MP4.. As said, with a 64MB CF card as swap file.

With 64MB swap you might need a month or so without reboot before it might crash... but it will crash guaranteed...

I'm confused as to what DreamOS is, googling it did not enlighten me.

Which image do you use, can you provide a link? Is there an advantage to using a CF card as opposed to a USB swapfile? Did you actually mean 64MB, or GB?

A month? I consider this a solution! If my box crashes once a month, I'm fine. World of a difference to every 5-10min...
