Everything points into the direction of the packet manager (opkg) which really sucks when it has to update important OS or system files (no dependency management).

As soon as I know, I'll tell you. I've been on this without much sleep for the last two days.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

REQUEST:

If you have the green screen problem after you did an update via the menu, please try to get the file /home/root/ipkgupgrade.log from the box before doing anything, and upload it here.

if you still have a box with 7.1-release on it, could you login, issue the command "opkg list-upgradable --verbosity=4", and post the result here. And wait for confirmation before actually do the update?

We can not reproduce this issue, maybe that file will shed some light on why the update sometimes fails.

Brillant!

@PriskVark, for your solo2, can you also provide the result for

opkg info enigma2

and

opkg list-installable

It looks like my idea was right, and opkg doesn't see all updated packages...

In addition, once you have done that, issue the command

opkg install distro-feed-configs --force-reinstall

and repeat the "opkg list-installable" command. Is enigma2 now present in the output?

Now, that is interesting.

Can you do an "opkg update", and then check again?

Ok. So it does see both (the installed 17633 and the new 18050 version). Getting weirder...

Last question, what does this give you?

I am clueless now.

Your output of list-upgradable doesn't show the enigma2 package.

But this shows it clearly sees the currently installed version, and the version available in the feed:

Installed package: enigma2 - 2.7+git17633+f87c169-r0.0
Available package: enigma2 - 2.7+git18050+271d2ea-r0.0

which is confirmed by the "opkg list enigma2" output.

So I'm completely clueless to why it doesn't think it needs updating.

Unless it doesn't compare the versions, but also looks at the release version, and decides that because both are "r0.0", no update is needed?

I need to sleep over this, and dive into the opkg C source tomorrow...

Thanks for helping to debug this!
