Now that vlc4Iphone is available, I was wondering, if in the final Jade you could include a “Web-X-TV “ link for streaming in WebifPDA page.

In another words, make it fully functional but at a lower resolution suitable for mobile. (Iphone ETC )

Thankyou

That is not going to be possible, because it would mean the dreambox should re-encode the stream. It doesn't have the CPU to do that.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

my ramblings on this ;)

soidog2, did you try this on the full sided webif web-x-tv on your iphone to see if it worked? You should try the "video PID" link though as the web-x-tv skin will take up to much screen space.

You can try this by using this url http://192.168.1.199/?screenWidth=800 - your screenwidth is now about 320.

Click on web-x-tv but the "video PID" would be better and easier to link in, and if it works with your vlc, it could be easy enough to add a link to it, as vlc wil handle the resizing.

You can try it on your 7020 as all this code is changebale so you can set it up for your own iphone and let us know the outcome.

/share/tuxbox/engima/templates and the .tmp files is where you make the changes (set for WAP cards)

EDIT:

Here I use an Asus P535 with wifi to play with this stuff, so it has just dawned on me what WanWizard above was saying, as he is right I think, as the iphone does not have wifi for local connections and you have to use gprs or edge, is that right? If so forget what I said above.

OK , I was bussy with the real word .
The Iphone has excelent wifi, depending on wan/lan it will connect at faster speed than your average laptop.

I am playing with the full interface and will report.

What I want to get going ; remote streaming ; WWW to my Iphone with an acceptable image.
A newer version of vlc4Iphone is in the works, hopefully will work better.

regards

One problem at a time, in the PDA interface I get a regular connection, everything working.
In the full interface, everything is still working but the page does not load properly.
The menus are truncated with only the top two or three items showing
Services ETC do not load at all.

See the bellow.

What can I play with to get it to load in full, the browser is: mobile safari ( Mac)

The one with "screenWidth=800" is not the PDA interface (see the menu title). It uses javascript refresh timers etc, and mobile safari cannot handle it. The normal safari or Firefox should work (but not on your phone).

I hear you !
I am not an expert on the subject but I believe Java is supported and scripts work as well as on any full size browser
Hopefully, soon a solution will be found !
I got the same answer when I asked for the VLan for Iphone “cannot be done!" It is here now.

In the full webif, web-x-tv loads easily . all that is needed, (for somebody smarter than me), to link the vl4iphone with the webif web-x-tv.
It would be great for the “Pli”, to be the first image supporting this format !
The player itself streams easily from the: DreamboxIP:31344 , see pictures below !

Thanks

So there is no vlc browser plugin. Could be that vlc4iphone doesn't provide it. Or the browser doesn't recognize it.

I guess you'll have a better chance at the vlc forum. Or with the creators of vlc4iphone.

Next best thing, feel free to improve it !

Here’s my working solution for dreambox ( Pli ) wan streaming to an Iphone.
Tested on windows XP, dreambox 7020Si and working with VLC 0.92.

Required : Jailbroken Iphone on firmware 2.00+ and vlc4Iphone, beta v0.99 (v1.00 will not work)

Dreambox with “Pli Jade “image installed ( I did not try any other image )

A PC with Vlan installed, to act as server on the same LAN with the dreambox..

Internet access for the server PC and the dreambox.(addressable via router port forwarding)

A domain setup, ( No-Ip.org, ETC ).

Forward port 80 to your Dreambox and port 8080 to the server PC

Copy & paste the "bat" file below, using notepad, save as “***.bat” on your “C” drive)

"%ProgramFiles%\VideoLan\VLC\vlc" http://192.168.1.***:31344 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=256,scale=.5,acodec=mpga,ab=32,channels=1}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,dst=192.168.1.***:8080}}

Substitute with your actual IP where:
#1, 192.168.1.***:31344 "= your dreambox IP
#2, 192.168.1.***:8080 "= your PC server IP
The script allows Vlc to downgrade the streaming resolution from the Pli so it’s suitable for the Iphone.

Start Vlan on the server Pc with the “bat” file. (double click it or put it in the startup group)

Choose your favorite channel on the dreambox. ( local or via the webif )

To view, ( make sure you're on "WIFI") add: “ your domain name:8080 ” to the playlist in vlc4Iphone , than play it!

Changing channels is not elegant , we have more than one Iphone.
I use one on the Pli webif to change channels, the other one to watch.
Changing channels on the webif will automatically change them on your viewing Iphone.

The stream is extremely smooth and a pleasure to watch.
The only kink is the player, beta version does crash sometime and you need to restart the player and playlist.

On a laptop you can restream to other clients.

I did not write the script ; found it on the w.w.w., thanks to the original writer whoever you may be!

Have Fun
