Can you start the box without the device plugged in, do a "dmesg -c" to clear the messages, then plug the device is, and check dmesg output?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Where is the dmesg from after you connected the device? The "-c" is just to clear the message buffer.

I think you've still misunderstood me.

First, unplug the device. and type

dmesg -c

the output of this is NOT relevant.

Then plug the device in, and type

dmesg

that output IS relevant.

Ok, so it doesn't even detect the device and load the driver?

I did a bit of searching and reading, appearently it needs at least kernel 3.9 to make it run, and even then it needs kernel patches. So I think you can forget it on the antique DM8000.

Don't know, we don't build images for old DM hardware, OpenPLi 7 will most likely be the last for the DM8000 too...

Anyway, further discussion is rather pointless.

  • we don't own a device to test
  • the linux kernel driver doesn't seem to work
  • we don't have the required kernel patches to make it work

I think most kernels are patched.

Some kernels are patched, others not (it's madness trying to patch everything out there).

Problem was (and still is) that TBS never tried to push the required kernel patches back to kernel.

So today still people have to patch kernel to make those cards working.

Thought so.

I have to say I'm quite reluctant to create a driver that sometimes works, sometimes don't. We've had that misery with wifi drivers, which is a maintenance nightmare and confusing for users...
