I now have a USB HDD for recordings and I added a USB-stick for storing EPG. In EPG-menu, how do I choose between USB-stick and USB-HDD?

If you set the user mode to expert (or advanced, not sure), you get a location field extra in the timer definition, so you can choose another recording location than the default.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

I mean storing the EPG, not the recording.

Thr option is in the EPG settings within the EPG menu.

If you are only using the stick for EPG, you are better off removing it and just using the HDD.

The storage device is only used for EPG at startup, restart and shutdown. EPG data is held in RAM.

Sent from my Moto G (5S) using Forum Fiend v1.3.3.

Ah, so.

The only reason I have it on USB, is that I also have my backup on that USB, and I can reuse that easily when I switch boxes for test purposes (saves a lot of setup time after a flash).

The internal HDD is dying. The external USB needs time to spin up. Therefore I will use a USB-stick for EPG.

As it is only written when you terminate Enigma, and read when Enigma starts, that is only a potential issue on shutdown. When the box starts, the disk will spin up anyway.

I assume you've checked if your USB-to-disk enclosure supports sleep mode? Mine doesn't...

The external hdd will already be spinning when you startup/shutdown.

Yes, but it goes "to sleep" after 5 mins.

Because I have to wait for the disc to spin up... I upgraded now. 1 new upgrade. Guess it was the picons. After restart, all EPG is gone, and I have to go to a specific channel to download it again. TV4 Film for me for Scandinavian channels, and go to about 10 different German channels I'm watching.

Now I added some channels via Dreamboxedit, transfered the file to the box, restarted and all EPG-info is gone.

Then it can't save the epg?

USB device:

  • correctly formatted?
  • visible on the box?
  • do you see the epg.dat file?
  • set as storage location in the EPG menu?

First of all, why is it not possible to edit post just a few minutes after posting...?

But, I'll empty the internal HDD (only 800 GB left...), and go for a new internal disk. I had no problem with this then.

Because we've had jokers that changed posts after the facts, completely distorting a discussion. And the forum software can't block edits once there is a reply (which would be a better alternative).

It should work fine with a USB stick, I do it on all my boxes.

With internal and external HDD in addition to USB-stick might be to much?

Should not be the case.

What could be, is that after a boot the order of devices is different, because that depends on the detection speed. so it could be that on one boot the stick is /media/usb, the next time your disk is /media/usb.

I can't imagine anything else. I've been using the "epg.dat on usb" for many years.

Removed USB-stick, and the EPG is not deleted after updating, even if EPG was not stored on the stick.
