Does your MKV video compress H.265 ? Vu+ Solo 2 only supports H.264. This usually means that the audio codec is processed and audible, but the video codec (H.265) is not processed and you cannot see the picture on the TV.

Hi,

are the mkv files local on your Duo4K? What is inside the MKV (PC tool mediainfo analyzes media files)? MKV is only a container and can contain a lot of different video formats. From my own experience I noticed that wmv seems to be dropped by VU/Broadcom.

You have to post more info about these files. But as Trial already mentiones. Duo4k doesnt support all codecs, its not really meant to be media player.

Hi,

big media files could also be a samba problem which sometimes exists with files >2GB.

@ trial ,

if you think that there is a samba problem , it could be too , because I cannot access my HDD via  Win 10 her are my samba settings  I think I need to put in   " min protocol = SMB2" ?

What part of:

# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE !!!
# ADD YOUR GLOBAL CHANGES TO smb-user.conf !!!

is not clear? ;)

@wanwizard,

thats what it says in the file , you need to make any changes in the  "smb-user.conf" and not in the  "SMB Config"

its clear not? to change anything there, but as "Trail"  suggested my MKV problem could be samba related, I meanwhile have added

the "min protocol = SMB2" under my [glabal] in my "smb-user.conf" I hope this clears up ? or what do you mean ?

@Trial

solved my problem with the HDD  , using   in windows 10  " add windows location" wizard to add my HDD of my Vu+ duo 4k to my windows  :)

Yes, that is ok. It is just that smb.conf will be replaced on updates, so if you change that, you would lose your changes.

Of course, Windows 10 can also handle Samba1.
It was only disabled by default.
But can be reactivated by everyone without problems.

But you should avoid that whenever possible.

SMBv1 is insecure, and you should only enable it if you have a server device that only supports SMBv1. For an STB, that isn't needed, Samba supports SMBv2 for many years, and now also supports SMBv3.

If you want OpenPLi to switch to a more secure setup, simply remove the # from this line:

# include = /etc/samba/smb-secure.conf

which will disable SMBv1 and anonymous access.

The problem above is not that in Windows SMBv1 is now disabled, but also SMBv2 with guest access is disabled. And in the non-secure (or legacy) config, guest access is enabled for backward compatibility.

From my humble point of view, this is all little meaningful stuff.
We are talking about Samba in the home network.
If you do not know that you can be open to your Samba in public networks, version 2 or 3 does not help.
Windows 10 is also not safer just because it is a new version number.
As before, even I can contrast it with an ancient Windows NT, which is much better protected from external attacks. Only this is then also limited in its functional scope.
For me, all of this makes little sense, first of all using Samba to provide easy access for everyone and then simply to castrate that no one wants to use it anymore.
Then everyone uses DLNA or UPNP and what does that have to do with security?

No matter Samba 1 still works in Windows 10. Like some other features, it was not activated by default.
Roughly speaking, nobody should use a Windows computer if they have security concerns.
Samba1 is most certainly Windows' smallest problem, but it is then pulled up.

You are entitled to your opinion. ;)

I only provide the information, everyone can judge for themselfs. I personally don't use Windows at all.
