Hi all,

I wanted to ask about 4K support in exteplayer3, but I found this message on the github page:

exteplayer3 - project has been closed - please start to use different branch

Does anybody knows, what hapend and where the development is going on now?

Was to be expected.

samsamsam, the author, has been complaining about his code being "stolen" for a while, and has been demanding from us (on this forum) to take action to actively protect his code.

Which we refused, we are no party, and his code is pubished without license, which makes it available for re-use.

I am not aware of any further development. Perhaps he has continued closed source in some sort of IPTV plugin, who knows...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Like I thought: no public source, only ipk's floating around.

Not the only offender, though...

Thanks for your replies!

What comes from google is this repo https://github.com/e...yer/exteplayer3 which is under GPLv2. There are also ipks in on the openpli feed, are they built from this repo?

To my experience exteplayer works better with certain iptv streams. Is it going to be distributed in openpli images as ipk in the future? Shall we try to crate an open source fork maintained by the community?

So do you think we can forget about the ffmpeg approach and just use gstreamer.

I guess you can use exteplayer3 development under your github account.

If there is something usable we can switch to your fork.

Yes.

I would prefer a decent working gstreamer implementation, much easier for the end-user too.

Yep, but unfortunately to much c-style for me. I may contribute occasionally. I wanted to know your opinion on further direction :)

There is a little mess ...
samsamsam complained about the code as stolen from the e2iplayer.
Regarding exteplayer3 he can hardly complain, he got the code himself from the libeplayer (in the case version2) of the sh4 project.
By the way, the Hisiplayer is nothing else and is based on the libeplayer3 from the sh4 project.

Incidentally, Taapat also wanted to adjust exteplayer3 a little at the time. Back then, had problems with the always bad-tempered samsamsam, if I remember correctly. :)

No need to talk about history, what happened, happened.

If somebody likes to offer updates, there are many areas waiting for patches and collaboration.

https://github.com/D...ter/libeplayer3

If you feel like it, you can certainly take a few things from there, as a possible update.

Edit :

Nothing to do with history ...
This was a hint that the 'stolen' code mentioned was never about exteplayer3.
That will probably be correct.

I don't care about python plugin by samsamsam, but I care about having a good player on enigma2.

enigma2 has a problem getting rid of the gst.
It's been like this forever and will never change.
Only if you tinker yourself can create a pure ffmpeg based solution.

Hisi is also ffmeg based.
Mipsel could of course also be based purely on ffmpeg, but as seen directly above, this approach is nipped in the bud.
It is not wanted.
The outsourcing of servicemp3 has long been the basis for a simple changeover.
So pli is a step further than OE core.
You can see some of the Hisi approach of libeplayer3 (sh4).
Therefore I mentioned Taapat, because he used to build pure libeplayer3 variant for sh4.

He is also better acquainted with exteplayer3.

greetings

I understand that, but which chipset?

One should make a distinction.
Hisi has his own solution, and activating the service app and exteplyer3 would be more of a problem than making improvements.

ARM 4k (H7 / HD51 ..) I already pointed out DuckboxDev.
They expanded it towards 4k.
Exteplayer3 would then have to branch out and see how it works.
greetings

Ah... for just regular HD I am talking about any broadcom SoC.

UHD does not work on arm.

What is hisi?

zgemma h9, octagon sf8008 and many more similar boxes are Hisi Chipset.

UHD ->LiveTV?

or do you mean h265 encoded media file?

If you build yourself, I would build the exteplayer3 times from the branch
