Dear all,

I have a Gigablue UHD Trio 4k and transcoded streaming (from mpeg2 to h.265) works really well. Now I wondered whether I could also transcode while recording as my box is already quite capable doing it while streaming. The reason behind this is, that my internet upload is quite slow so I can't play/stream recorded mpeg2 videos in real-time over the internet to my mobile.

I haven't found something on Google and also in the (extensive) recording menu. Is this something the software is already capable of or is there a plugin?

Thank you!

Frank

As long as the box has demuxes enough, you can watch, record and stream to your harts content.

Most boxes only have one transcoder, so you are limited to one channel at the time.

( not in the neighborhood of a box, so I can't check the exact specs of the Trio )

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Like HD60 it has two transcoders upto 720p or 1 for 1080p. Maybe it's interesting option to record/capture the stream for recording.

Or better have an option to transcode in the background... usually you should have sufficiant room for recodings but might ‘compress’ it for keepers. Then we also have a single feature to add in e2 instead to adapt the recording stuff which is already a relative complicated spaghetti and also need to add options in timers and so on.

I would be in favor of having such an option. I was thinking whether it would be even easier to capture the (transcoded) stream by connecting to the localhost via a linux tool (wget, nc?). Wouldn't be so hard to implement I guess if there is a recording script where one only needs to "change one line of code"?
