It's no problem connecting a Shield to HDMI in on VU+ Ultimo 4K and get full resolution and picture quality on the TV?

Are you asking a question or are you making a statement?

If you are asking a question, there is another thread that confirms there is an issue with the Vu receivers and HDMI-input.

I think input is limited to 720p. But I’m not sure whether it works in this combination.

As there is a '?' at the end, it's a question!

With the HDMI helper the input should support 1080. But it doesn't support HDCP, so if that Shield requires it, to need to address that issue.

Will be in 7.3-release for the VU+ 4K boxes with HDMI in. It will lift the 720p restriction.

I thought there was a limitation to 720p in the c++ code:

https://github.com/O...cehdmi.cpp#L252

1280 x 720

Or doesn't it apply for normal watching?

That is only for recording, it was added afaik when the ET10000 was introduced, and never done anything with since.

Recording doesn't work on the VU+ at all, no matter what is changed there, the resulting file is rubbish. Only looked at it for a few minutes though, my knowledge is severly lacking in that area.

The question is whether it is a driver issue, or an Enigma issue.

For example, the code snippet above has a hardcoded 720p allocation, which doesn't make sense as the input can vary. I had a quick look with Erik some time ago, but we both lack the knowledge about this part of Enigma.

Perhaps the first step should be to see if we can make a raw dump of what is received, and try to make sense of that?

Are there any other boxes with a HDMI, apart from the VU+ 4K's, the Gigablue Quad 4K and the ET10000, that would need testing?

Also, you need a HDCP killer if you don't have a HDCP free source, it probably is the easiest to test using another box as input, which is HDCP free and allows you to vary the input resolution.

Just to repeat what in one of the other threads...

Someone on another forum posted this

I'm trying to record through HDMI-IN and here's what I got:
- VTi image: the recorded video is 720p resolution with no sound

- Original image: the recorded video is 720p resolution with no sound

- OpenATV: the recorded video is corrupted.

- OpenBH: the recorded video is corrupted.

- Blackhole: the recorded video is corrupted.

I don't think is is an Enigma2 issue. Complication is that PLI does not build for all the machines that have HDMI in. I have access to a Golden Interstar LX3 which has HDMI-in, recording works fine on it on OpenATV and Vix (when it was built).

EDIT:

Added "all"

What do you mean "OpenPLi does not build for machines that have HDMI in"? You mean "your machines"?

I have an ET10000, a GB Quad 4K and a Duo 4K here to test with. I only tried recently with the Duo 4K, same result as above, corrupted video (i.e. a file with unknown content).

I think for the Duo 4K the difference in your above list is that VTI and the original image don't have the HDMI helper installed (that patches the driver to allow 1080p)?

Sorry, I meant all machines that have HDMI in. Post edited. You have three brands to test so that will rule in/out driver issues

We'll have to wait and see. I won't have time for it until after 7.3 is released and I can clear my desk again.

With the HDMI helper the input should support 1080. But it doesn't support HDCP, so if that Shield requires it, to need to address that issue.

is this the hdmitest plugin ?
