Hello. I was wondering if a server version of OpenPLi could exist and work.
I'm not sure how much control the openwebif interface I've seen gives, but I thought maybe that could be how it was managed.
The idea is an alternative to TVHeadend. TVHeadend honestly works great... It does so much more than I would ever need, but really falls short for me when it comes to channel mapping and epg mapping. From what I have seen enigma2 and OpenPLi do this much better.
Stupid idea? Good idea?

If by that you mean a central box with lots of tuners in a cupboard doing all your recording, and tunerless streaming clients for watching TV (or recordings / streams ) using a tuner of that box, the answer is yes, several of us have been using such an environment for years...

Yes that is exactly what I am talking about but instead of buying a "box", using an x86 based PC instead.
I have seen a couple of old projects that attempt to get enigma2 running on a PC, but they all seem to be aimed at people who want to watch on a PC.
I'd like a one size fits all headless build with web gui for config. I'm not sure how complex that would be?

Also, I wonder how efficient and effective it will be, I have 16 SAT tuners in my core box, how do you get that in an x86 machine, and at what cost?

Sounds like an awesome setup.
A lot of people already have home servers. Mine runs the surveillance, tv, plex and all the torrent automation stuff with sonarr, radarr etc.
Adding tuners to a PC can be as cheap as the official xbox one dvb-t/c usb tuners... or even less if you go with a direct from china no brand. Satellite gets more expensive... My quad TBS card cost as much as a decent box. BUT it means only one device is running all of my services (and is way more powerful). If you don't already have a home server, absolutely just buy a box and run it as a server.
I have seen topics on enigma2 PC, but they seem to be very old.

I doubt it, we're not interested in "PC" versions at all...

VU Duo 4K, tuners A to P.
You can go two more with an Ultimo 4K, which has a third tuner slot for legacy dual tuners...

Not really the same (as it has 8 individual inputs), and at $ 239.00 a pop, not really an incentive to go for an x86 solution.

As far as incentive goes, adding the sat stuff to an existing home server is more appealing to a lot of people. Tvheadend exists and works great, but options are always nice.

Well, nobody is stopping you (or someone else), our sources are open and GPL licensed. But we are not intrested.

In theory, all you'd need to do is add meta-intel to the BSP submodules and build for an intel board... Whether it'll actually work mostly depends on DVB support in Intel hardware...
