Hello WanWizard,

You many times wrote that something is illegal (even though you are not a lawyer) or you said that something smell for you illegal.
So, I think you should be interested with this:

You should know that official youtube plugin available via OpenPLI feed contains and use code youtube-dl.
So, I think you will remove it now because it "smell illegal" or maybe you are a hypocrite...

Regards,
Sam

I am very aware of what the RIAA is doing.

First of all , the RIAA has no jurisdiction outside the United Status. And secondly, the Youtube plugin doesn't infringe on copyright. It may prevent Google from getting advertising revenue, but that is a different matter.

It states:

The clear purpose of this source code is to (i) circumvent the technological protection measures used by authorized streaming services such as YouTube, and (ii) reproduce and distribute music videos and sound recordings owned by our member companies without authorization for such use. We note that the source code is described on GitHub as “a command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com and a few more sites.”

Which means it falls in the same category as softcams: you could use it for something illegal, but we don't distribute it as such nor do we advocate its use as such. In the context of the youtube plugin, it is used to view Youtube video's, the same way the website does, or any smart TV app does.

Whether or not downloading video's is illegal depends on local legislation, the statement you link to only refers to the United States. So if you are living there, don't download with it.

This has nothing to do with our view on card sharing, IPTV streams, and ripped media, which is a clear infrigement of (copy)rights, and illegal in most countries.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

The YouTube plugin is designed to watch videos on YouTube.
This claim is against specific download links that are included in the youtube-dl code for the tests.
The YouTube plugin does not contain such links.
