Hi,

some days ago, I installed the SNMP-Agent plugin on my receivers, both running 7.3

In my sleeping room, the Edision Osmini just works fine since then.

My main box in the living room (Mutant HD51), worked fine for 2 days, then suddenly stopped working (of course, I didn´t made any changes).

Waking againt it, just leads to:

4.11.2020 12:55:08 (6 ms) : Device: 192.168.1.222
24.11.2020 12:55:08 (9 ms) : SNMP v2c
24.11.2020 12:55:08 (12 ms) : Walk 1.3.6.1.2.1.1
24.11.2020 12:55:08 (28 ms) : 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 = "SNMP Agent for Enigma2" [ASN_OCTET_STR]
24.11.2020 12:55:08 (38 ms) : 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0 = ".1.3.6.1.4.1.88.3.1" [ASN_OCTET_STR]
24.11.2020 12:55:14 (6081 ms) : Error: -2003

I did uninstall and reinstall, but this did not help.

Any suggestions to bring the agent on the Mutant to live again?

Thanks!

Error -2003 means "No response received". So not much to go on.

If you can run de agent in foreground mode, it should be possible to strace it, and see why it crashes.

puuuuh, can you help me out?

Where is the agent (and its config) located? Some digging with "find" leads to nothing :(

On a Pi or so, I would fiddlling around in /etc/snmp. But here, its very different...

Maybe a first step is to pull the power plug? Because I can see something like that (looks not very normal)

root@hd51:/# dmesg
[572116.059333] hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Pulling the power plug isn't a good idea,  make sure you put it in deep standby first.

I don't own an HD51, so I can't directly help you.

However, I see that it is not the normal smnp agent daemon, it's a python implementation as an Enigma plugin, probably becasue it also provides Enigma and softcam data. So it could well be that the Enigma plugin is crashing.

You could debug that by restarting Enigma in debug mode, and check the debuglog in the root home directory when the issue occurs.

I just installed the agent straight from the feed, nothing exotic.

I will powercycle first (when my wife allows it) :) and then report back and think on further steps.

Powercycle was not the conclusion. Interesting thing, despite on the starttype at boot (button green), there is nothing listing on 161 UDP. If I start the service manually, everything is fine

root@hd51:/var/volatile/log# netstat -tulpen |grep -i 161
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:161 0.0.0.0:* 1957/enigma2

but its still not working on an snmpwalk :(

I am kinda lost now and will meditate on a beer or two...

As I wrote, it is an snmp agent in Python that is serviced by Enigma. Who knows how old it is, what is does and doesn't support.

I still think is tries to do something that causes a Python exception that isn't caught, which makes the listener crash. That theory is also supported by the fact it runs fine on your other box (any differences between the two?)

The Edision OSMini is a mips32el, the Mutant HD51 is an ARM-Device. Plugin on both installed per feed, nothing special.

I´m hoping on OpenPli 8.0 :)

Ok, just an hour ago, I updated my Osmini to the latest 7.3 and SNMP also stopped working

I wait for 8.0 on both boxes...

You could try 8.0-RC which is available since yesterday:

openpli 8.0-rc sf8008

sf8008 login: root
Password:

root@sf8008:~# opkg list | grep net-snmp
net-snmp - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-client - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-dbg - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol - Debugging files
net-snmp-dev - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol - Development files
net-snmp-libs - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-mibs - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-server - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-server-snmpd - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-server-snmptrapd - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol
net-snmp-staticdev - 5.8-r0.0 - Various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol - Development files (Static Libraries)

You will have to remove the snmp plugin and restart Enigma otherwise the port will be in use.

Bedankt, WanWizard.

I updated to 8.0 RC on the Osmini and reinstalled the (old) SNMP-agent plugin. Its working again :D

Of course I will try the net-snmp stuff, too.

Update to 8.0 RC killed my mediaportal-plugin, I have to bring it back to live (otherwise my wife kills me)

Mediaportal runs fine on 8.0-RC, but as it is not in the feed it needs to be installed manually (as always).

I´m not finding the net-snmp stuff under plugins. I searched in "extensions", is that wrong? The old SNMP was located there.

it is not a plugin, nor an extension, those are all Enigma things.

net-smtp is an operating system package, which you either install from the commandline, or via softwware management, in package management.

I did

opkg install net-snmp

and install went fine. Now I am seeking something like snmp.conf to adjust passwords, ports etc but I don´t find it.

The installed stuff seems to reside in /usr/share/snmp. Did I forgot sth? Have I to install the snmpd-stuff, too?
Sorry, never worked with net-snmp...

There are several packages, depending on what you need. server or client.

You have installed the client, and you need the server, so the "net-snmp-server" package. It will install both snmpd and snmptrapd, and the required snmpd.conf.

Given the fact security doesn't need to be that tight on a home LAN, I would suggest just to go with a ReadOnly community, and disable any ReadWrite.
