FBC switch for several FBC LNBs..

May I ask from FBC LNB users what matrix you use? By my understanding this can't be a normal DiSEqC? Let say, I have toroidal-90 antenna with 8 FBC LNB. What should I use and how to connect the FBC LNBs so, I can use them with all beauty and glory? Let say, the box is Vu+Duo4K. One user in Estonia is interested and there may be several more.

I found from Wiki this https://wiki.openpli...Unicable_/_Jess

Please share your experience!

You‘d best take a look on the site of Jultec. I doubt whether your wishes can be forfilled. If your wishes might be forfilled it will be pretty expensive.

Thank you, good answer. Is there anything else? This link explains, but how do our FBC use use this FBC part? I'm grateful if you share experience. I have a Lunix 3-4K box and a FBC LNB Dur-Line UK 124 – 24 users LNB SCR UNICABLE. I don't have any plans to spend more money, but I'd be interested to know, how would it be possible in the best way.

My experience regarding Unicable II lnb is none. I do not own one so I can’t help overthere.

There are basically two possibilities. As the FBC tuner only has two physical inputs, you're limited to that. That means you either just use the two inputs with automatic assignment, like you do with directly connected tuner or a DiSEqC setup. Or that you re-arrange the transponders in a way that all transponders you want receive are on the same cable, that is what SCR (Unicable, JESS) is all about.

So either you have the automatic assignment, which means you'll have one (or two, depending on how many inputs are physically connected) transponders guaranteed and up to eight transponder if you're lucky (same quadrant).

Or you're using SCR and you'll always have eight transponders available.

SCR and DiSEqC are mutually exclusive by design. Aside the fact they're using similar signalling techniques may confuse each other.

If you want the full FBC functionality (eight independent tuners), you'll have to invest in a SCR switch or SCR LNB's. The latter seems to be a lot cheaper, but also has some drawbacks.

This question has been asked before with no clear answer.  Would be grateful if somebody could actually explain how to use multiple Jess LNBs on a setup.

You mean Unicable LNB's without a switch?  JESS is a Unicable II protocol from Jultec, for their switches.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Yes, I am referring to LNBs. What protocol are used for these LNB's please?

  • GT-Sat GT-S1DCSS24 SCR/dCSS Single Cable Unicable II LNB SCR24 with 1x Legacy Outputs
  • Inverto IDLU-32UL40-UNB00-0PP

I know that there is a combiner (nobody has ever posted a link to one or details) and an expensive programmer for the Inverto units.

And such a splitter, but how to you use it?

https://www.inverto....itter-5-2400mhz

I will refer a letter from the Estonian user that we have in our forum. The salesman from HM Sat gives him such an explanation:

With one cable from your antenna you are able to Receiver and use one polarization out of 32. You could use more features of your box if you had 2 cables but even then you have just 2 of 32. The only way to use it fully would be unicable . The problem is unicable for more than 4 satellites is very uncommon and even we have not build such a system. Multisatellite reception and regular use of FBC tuners is not working at the moment.

There's probably a number of different ways to use the FBC!? It's a little confusing for me too. In Estonia we have a very common combination together with toroidal antenna a let say 10 LNBs. A lot of Sat entusiasts have this combination and from point of FBC it needs a understandable solution. Even if I don't want to buy it, but I want to figure out how it's meant to work.

FBC tuners are "complexes". They have two physical connections. There are 8 demodulators. The signal wire or wires you provide to to the physical  connections determine  what the other 6/7 can be set to.

How many LNBs do you have and what type are they?

OK, I'm actually asking for one of our Estonian forum users. He have 8 LNBs with toroidal-90, they're all normal, and he's gonna have to replace them anyway then. And he have Duo4K and he wants to use it fully. Fully == he wants to use all Duo4K tuners that can be used for his 8 different Satellite positions. He's willing to change LNBs, that's probably necessary, but he wants to know what and how. What else he needs to get the system to work.

About me, I have four satellites positions (LNBs). That's enough for me, that's all I need (19.2E, 13.0E, 5.0E, 0.9W). I have purchased for testing FBC LNB Dur-Line UK 124 – 24 users LNB SCR UNICABLE. I'm curious theoretically, if I had four of them, what would that be the matrix that switched them to?

There is no such thing as FBC LNB. There are FBC tuners and Jess/Unicable (1/2) swithes/LNBs.

For your friend, how many physical connections does he have on his Duo 4. i.e does he have 1 card (two physical signal connections) or 2 cards (four physical connections)?

You can see an FBC tuner module as a module that can work in three modes:

  1. legacy mode, where it emulates a twin-tuner with 6 internal loop-through tuners, which can be connected dynamically to either A or B
  2. unicable mode, where you have 8 individual tuners that either talk to a unicable LNB (fixed SCRs or a Unicable switch (dynamic SCRs)
  3. mixed mode, where one input is used for unicable, and one for legacy mode.

mode 2 and 3 are in practical terms identical, as in mode 2 you use only one input.

I think he has one, I'll specify that with him. I can understand from your Q, that if there were two, then one input and 4 LNBs and the other the rest of 4 LNBs? (4+4=8 as he wants).
And obviously for four are made up some solution?

Are you asking this?

If I connect 4 universal LNBs using a diseqc switch to one input and another 4 universal LNBs to the other input of an FBC tuner, can I set all 8 demodulators independently for each satellite?

As far as I know, the answer is "no".

Thanks, no, I didn't ask you that, because I know that in that case, the answer is no. I explained that we're ready to swap 4 universal LNBs (in my case) and 8 universal LNBs (in my friends case) to Jess/Unicable (1/2) swithes/LNBs. That jess/Unicable switches is my question mark right now. Do I understand that what Frenske offered would be the solution? (In post #2). I want the answer to your Q on post #6.

Thanks WanWizard for your explanations, it helps understanding!

It would be interesting to know how Erik has made his system, I know he's working this thing.

And there's another easy way to do this with two cables-

  • cable one with one Unicable II LNB (with all the beauty)
  • cable two with the rest of the system

That should be enough!? (my Lunix have two cable inputs, both are for FBC tuners)

For 8 positions you need two Jultec JESS switches (JPS1701-16 I think), each for 4 sat positions, around 1200 euro for the set.

You can also use wideband LNB's (they don't have High/Low), in which case one switch is enough for 8 positions. Probably not cheaper though, if you already own the quads.
