E.e.a. is geillustreerd in de bijgevoegde screenshots.

1 ) funny, when somebody using "center" for centered subtitles and see "problem"...

2 ) "what 15 year old problem" ??? It was feature for "clearing" rest-outlines of centered subtitles, when the lower parts of the letters as "j, p, y, q ..."  (3 lines) extended into the lower region => centering moved top region, but rests were still in bottom region.

'Fix' was removing this feature only. It should be changed to:  "No", "Centered", "Centered with clearing". But as I saw, providers on dutch services finally learned to broadcast subtitles centered and using smaller characters.

It is not funny.  The centering option for DVB-subtitles is standard on because this setting is all or nothing setting.  If you select it, it is selected for every channel.

And I want it for some other channels.

So I observed the problem on BBC-entertainment

The artefact can also be seen in other stations, for example in some German stations.
Attached a screenshot from SWR HD. You can see two lines, also in the top subtitle. It always occurs when the subtitle region is split up in different objects.
The issue has been addressed and has been uploaded by WanWizard. I expect it to be available at the next build.

@IMS:
According to the DVB spec, objects may never overlap. Moreover, centering the contents of a region should not affect its width or height. If it does, it's a bug and should be fixed, and not by erasing part of another region. If you have an example, please tell me where I can find it. Or better still, if you can, make a recording.

Can a moderator change the thread title please so that it mentions subtitle ?

The aretafct bug is present on ViX too. A screenshot of SWR HD on 19.2 also attached. You have to select the DVB subtitle, not teletext.

actually this option is stored per channel if you set it in Subtitle Quickmenu (yellow > yellow > blue > <Center DVB subtitles)...
True sarcasm doesn't need green font...

The commit seems to have made it worse for me. Using a Gigablue UE 4K. Screenshot of SWR HD on 19.2

Changes to software can have undesirable side effects - and good testing is essential, but often laborious.

However, in this case I would be surprised if this effect is caused by the most recent modification.

I have seen similar effects when the menu item 'Use original DVB subtitle position' (on the quick subtitle menu)  is on 'Fixed'.

Could you please check that if you change this setting to 'Original' the effect is still there?

A few days ago I made a screendump from a recording with the Fixed settings. You can see the same effect. I did this before the change I made, as you can see from the horizontal line in the bottom region.

Hello Abu Baniaz,

Could you please make a screenshot with the quick subtitle menu showing (as you did in your earlier post of 25 December)?

Thanks!

Ben

As requested. The center option was not relevant as it had issue with both yes and no

As an aside, there was a bug that affected UK subtitles. It was fixed with this

https://github.com/O...1b4920de684bb3c

But that got reverted because of an issue with some Norwegian subititle. There was no response to a request for a recording so that it could be looked at further.

EDIT:

Video to issue is here

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your last message. I took it to mean that the 'Original' meant the image without the last commit. And I took Fixed to mean my fix, as opposed to the Fixed position...

But if I understand correctly now, the modification works well if the 'Use original DVB subtitle setting' is set to original. So it's OK?

Ben

With reference to your video - these are stenographic subtitles, quite common in uk transmissions. The issue shown was addressed in earlier commit (https://github.com/O...68812a9fa2f71f2) and should no longer be an issue.

Do you have details on the problem with Norwegian transmissions?
