It's not difficult to reproduce it, it happens sufficiently frequently (actually every attempt to enter menu or EPG sooner or later ends with this spinning circle). I will try to capture it with debug enabled and post results later today.

If nothing helps, I'll probably return to 7.3 while waiting for 8.1. I can also try to give develop build a try before that.

Thanks. Lets hope the debug log reveils the problem.

Hi everybody.

Since the lasts versions, i noticed that often, the memory of the stop point of playback of a video is no longer done every time.

So, the small gauge in front of the title of the video is therefore always empty and there is no automatic recovery.

Will this issue be resolved in future releases ?

Thank's in advance.

Best regards.

Thanks. Lets hope the debug log reveils the problem.

OK, so I did this as you suggested.

I discovered quite funnty thing when I was trying to recreate the "spinner issue" by browsing thorough the menus and EPG - I really don't have to do anything to make this happen ! The "spinner" appears exactly every two minutes.

Doesn't matter if I'm just watching TV (then it appears in the programme) or if I'm in the menu/EPG. If I'm unlucky to be browsing through the menu/EPG while this happens, then STB freezes for a few seconds when spinner is displayed.

Debug log does not have timestamps so no idea if it helps or not but spinner apeared at 15:54:06 (browsing EPG), 15:56:06 (browsing EPG), 15:58:06 (browsing EPG), 16:00:06 (just watching TV). Then I went out of debug mode. Note that there might be some slight slip between when it happens and when I looked at the clock so very well it could be round times like 15:54:00, 15:56:00, 15:58:00, 16:00:00.

I also noticed that the following appears in the debug log when it happens:

[gRC] main thread is non-idle! display spinner!

Here's the link to my gzipped debug log:

https://mega.nz/file...juienD0dSTPKkKM

Hopefully it helps :-)

What does happen in Enigma every two minutes ?

Playing back from a read-only mount or a read-only filesystem?

From a nas (Synology DS414) in my network mount  by WLAN on the Duo2 and I should point out that I did not have this problem before.

WLAN is a shared medium, with a single radio that tunes itself to the slowest client.

So even if your box is next to your router and says it has a 300Mbps connection, if you have an iPhone upstairs next to the bed on the same radio, chances are the real throughput is maybe 5Mbps.

This means results from the past say nothing about performance in the future... ;)

You can test the real throughput using a tool like iperf3. It is in the package feed, for Synology it's available from Jadahl, I think it is in the community package feed: http://packages.synocommunity.com/

But I’m very surprised, because before, I never had this problem ?

And I did not modify my installation at all.

The box is at about 3 meters from the VU+ and connected also to a CPL.

I use a wifi 5Ghz.

The NAS is at the stairs on a CPL.

If necessary, i can use a CPL (power line carrier) but it's impossible de use a ethernet cable directly on my box.

[eDVBPESReader] ERROR reading PES (fd=50): Value too large for defined data type

Did you try delete the epg.dat on the hard drive?

Sorry for not replying earlier, I felt sick yesterday evening. So, yes, deleting epg.dat removed these 'value too large' messages but the 'spinner' issue did not go away.

There is still this "[gRC] main thread is non-idle! display spinner!" message in the log, exactly every two minutes, even if I don't do anything (then it's the only message in the debug log that repeats itself every 2 minutes).

It happens always on even minutes (:00:, :02:, :04:, :06: etc) but seconds varies, probably depends on the moment when enigma2 process was started. At one attempt it was always at :05 seconds, after another restart always at :20 seconds, then at :45 etc. etc. But always on even amount of minutes.

The only change in behavior that I noticed is that now I can no longer see the spinner while just watching TV (but still it logs in the debug log) so is not so annoying.

I also noticed another issue - if I'm unlucky to attempt switching into another channel at this "spinner" interval, screen goes black, spinner appears, "Tune failed !" message is displayed and STB switches to the new channel when spinner disappears (i.e .after a couple of seconds).

Basically it looks like enigma is busy with something exactly every two minutes and it is not able to process any remote control events at this time and displays spinner.

I was too tired with this and I have just reflashed to latest develop build, will let you know if it changed anything.

@zebulon7

You would probably have to modify the query for the disk.
The disk is not there when it is called within a defined time.
Either because WiFi has to be set up first,
Or because the NAS first has to wake up from standby,
Or because the disk in the NAS itself has to wake up first.
So you need a wait / sleep command that bridges this time.
This slows down the system, but leads to more stability in your case

@ klosz007

Did you activate something?
EPG refresh
Timeshift?

Otherwise the EPG.dat data on the hard disk will not be queried continuously.
somehow changed the system that you outsourced to EPG?

EPG is usually cached internally and only saved locally when it is shut down.
With you, however, it seems to constantly ask for the data.

I am not sure to understand.

I haven't made any changes in my installation.

The only change i made are the update of the vu+ and i use the mediaplayer of the vu+ (the one that display the gauge, i don't know the exact name, if necessary, i will post a photo)

How can i modify the query of the disk ? In the NAS ?

But i don't think your solution is the good one, because, i read all my movies by the nas, and the nas, is never sleeping.

Hi, it does not have anything to do with EPG sadly. Here's why:

I'm getting those menu freezes/spinner and "[gRC] main thread is non-idle! display spinner!" messages (in debug mode) every two minutes even if I do the following steps:

- flash image from menu + reboot

- say 'No' to question about restoring settings

- go though language/HDMI mode/overscan wizard

- updating image with latest packages from menu (+reboot)

So it's completely clean STB setup with no customizations and still the same issue. I am not even able to receive anything because I haven't installed/configured OSCAM yet and scanned channels. Just completely fresh box !

Both latest 8.0 and develop builds (pre-8.1) are affected but not 7.3... Something changed in 8.x that is triggering this behavior.

How can this be related to EPG, my cable provider or any of my customized settings ?

Here's debug output (some last lines) from such cleanly installed develop build:

What is

[ePNG] loadSVG /usr/share/enigma2/skin_default/icons/cutting.svg 30x28 from 20x19

and why does it constantly load the same image? What skin is installed?

As far as I know we don't have SVG images in our skins yet, and SVG support in development is still expirimental, 7.3 and 8.0 doesn't have that at all.

But what in the code uses the fallback files? Those are only uses for incorrectly skinned plugins. But that should only fetch it once.

svg files however are not cached (as they are scaled in real time), so the root cause of the issue could well be that there is something constantly fetching svg files for some reason?

Yes.
I am just amazed at the log.
And before that, something didn't seem ok either.
EPG.dat was probably not intact either.
Maybe it will be destroyed by this behavior?

For me, this is also a problem with EPG.dat in general.
Perhaps it should always be safely deleted with the new flash and also when changing multiboot.
Otherwise there is always the risk of defective epg.dat and consequential errors.

The only reason for the epg.dat existing is to make epg data presistent.

The EPG file structure is versioned, so it you start an image with uses a different version, it should not import it. For example, OpenPLi 7 and 8 use version 7, develop has version 8, these aren't interchangable.
