It is a Gui setting error or machine definition missing, apparantly not an issue in the skin_display xml.
Btw i had to rename your .xml in: skin_display_picon.xml.
The reason is (also weird to me) because it wouldn't show up after placing in the Display selector directory.
Still User interface :Show picons in display not working.
Also this skins picon position is affecting long channel names.
I will do some more testing and come back to you later.

I will flash new build from 9.0 develop in different slot. Just to be sure. I have tested on 9.0 stable release so far.

On OE Hardknott (3.3.6) OpenPLi Develop.
Picon on display on/off switch is working OK!

System hardware name is now different and showing in info window now UHD QUAD 4K.
But via putty it is still -gbquad4k- and that should be leading i think.

So on release 9.0 i have to guess what is different.
