Some of you have already noticed that as of today, 01/01/2021, it is possible to download and install a develop image.

What is a "develop" image?

A develop image is an automatically generated image, based on the github develop branches of both Enigma and our version of OpenEmbedded Linux. For all PLi veterans, this used to be known as the “nightly build”.

What is a develop branch?

The develop branch contains all current activities of the developers. This could be bugfixes, but also work related to larger development projects.

This means that the status of the develop branch, and with that the status of the develop image, always a "work in progress". A develop image available for download just means that the code is good enough to be compiled, not that it can be flashed successfully, or that the image can be used as all.

Can I flash a develop image?

Yes, sure, be our guest. Explicitly without any warranty, and explicitly without any support.

If there is something wrong with it, you can't use the forum to ask questions or request support, if you want that, you'll have to flash a supported release image.

Why put such an image online then?

The develop image is meant to be used by developers that don't have the infrastructure at home to build their own images, and for testers who want to test the latest developments as soon as possible and on as many boxes as possible, so they can provide feedback to the developers.

Only from these testers we expect and accept feedback on develop images. For this purpose we will create a separate forum, in which only developers and testers will be allowed to post.

How do I become a tester?

You can only become a Tester by invitation. We expect testers to have a good knowledge of both Linux and Enigma, and the skills to diagnose, debug and document any issues that may arise.

If you think you have what it takes to become a tester, and you haven't recieved an invitation, please request one by sending a PM to Frenske. We will asses your request based on your history on this forum.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.
