Good evening, guys, I'm trying to set up a regular FTP server.
I've downloaded vsftpd, enabled it to run as a standalone service, but, when I launch it from the command line, I get this error:

root@satty:~# vsftpd
500 OOPS: could not bind listening IPv4 socket

So, it looks like there's another instance of the process being executed.
I launch

root@satty:~# ps | grep vsftpd
 2117 root 2656 S grep vsftpd

then

root@satty:~# kill 2656
-bash: kill: (2656) - No such process

Well, I'm a little bit confused, what is happening???

On the box? vsftpd runs standard on it, no need to download (from where?) and install it.

Eh, no. Every OpenPLi has vsftpd installed by default.

What is your intention and goal using vsftpd?

As WanWizard said, vsftpd is installed by default, but not for standalone...

root@hd51:~# vsftpd
500 OOPS: vsftpd: not configured for standalone, must be started from inetd

Vsftpd is installed by default but can, of course, be uninstalled/reinstalled through opkg.
No specific goal about using it, just enabling one more service to see if it works outside my own WLAN (port forwarding).

You kill the wrong process it is the 1st number that you need to kill so in your exemple 2117 and not the one you try to kill which was the parent process id.

NO SUPPORT by PM, it is a forum make your question public so everybody can benefit from the question/answer.
