It just does not want to start up.

Nothing happens.

 

Put a stick into it with the image develop latest and tried also with 7.3.

Nothing happens it just sits there.  The lights do not even flash on the stick.

 

The latest image was develop 5/4/2021.

Typo corrected.

 

I was trying to flash an Xtrend ET-6500.  Could flash that.

But once I tried to install the seviceapp.  Big memory problems.

 

So I downloaded ATV and will try that.

 

But I just see it open the bootscreen of OpenPLi develop.

And stops.

 

booting udev.

 

Will try again with another stick (but not much hope - I used the other stick for flashing the Xtrend)

OpenATV will not install.

 

Since I did not have any radio anymore.  Got the Xtrend 6500 out and installed that.

Got this to work.  Sort of with OpenPLi 6.2

OpenPli 7.3 and develop got problems with memory once I tried to install the serviceapp.

Nothing else above the image is installed.

 

But this is an emergency solution.  If I cannot fix the Zgemma, I think I have to buy something else.

But what.  With the M7 (canal+) changes for next year I am in doubt if an enigma2 solution is still valid.

 

Secondly.  A simple cheap receiver.  Any suggestions?

If you’re looking for a simple fast receiver without any guarantee that it still works with M7 (no CI) you could spend € 79,- or less for a Multibox or a Multibox SE.

Can you connect to the zgemma box via telnet?
If yes, then there is a good chance to flash it via ofgwrite

It is off-line now.

But I doubt if I still can log-in via telnet.

Will try it tomorrow.  It has been enough for today.  My head start to explode.

 

I had a quick look at ofgwrite.  And I cannot make head or tails from it.

How do you use it?

Second option:  A xiaomi android box.

Can this play the TV-streams from my main receiver?  (M7 - TV channels)

Or can the M7 apps be installed on this?  (but then I will miss BBC and ITV channels)

I think it can do radio streams from the internet via an m3u file.

Yes it can play m3u simply download it and load it into your box. You probably have a m3u capable install on it like VLC.

Unzip the image zip file and put the files on a usb stick. Attach the stick to the box. Then call ofgwrite to flash the image.
ofgwrite -r -k /media/usb/.....
The path needs to be adapted. I will help you adapting it, but I first need to check something. In the meantime you can test.

Login did not work.

Could not get into the receiver.

 

But, a miracle has happened.

In complete desperation, I decide to give it one more go.  But inserted the USB-stick in the backport (instead of the front port).

And it installed OpenATV.  I had a look around and decided, I did not like it.

Now put the OpenPLi develop on the stick and, indeed it flashed it now.

 

Did not restore any configuration.  Decided the time was there to start over.

Just installed what I really needed.  (which is the serviceapp and systemtime).

 

And it works like before.

 

PS:  Tried also to install EPGimport and imported epg.  Since I do not have a harddisk, stored epg.dat into the flash.

This backfired.  The receiver won't start-up again.

So reflashed it, and left out EPGimport (not really needed here).

 

Checked the front USB port.  And found out why I could not flash from this.  It won't read the stick.  Probably a broken USB-port.

 

Needless to say, I will not experiment anymore on this receiver.

There are more boxes that don't flash using the front port for some reason. Never understood why, perhaps the bootloader doesn't load the driver for it?

 

I'll see if I can find a moment without running recordings today to test it myself.

Well, I have in the past flashed this box via the front port.

 

But, It is clear that this receiver is near its usefull life.

I have purchased a replacement:  Maxytec Multibox SE UHD.

Cost:  € 89,--  delivered at home.

Will used it as an enigma2 receiver.

But I will have the opportunity to experiment a bit with android.  (VTMgo, VRTnu, GoPlay etc...)

Maybe it si not worth anything, but at least I will have something to experiment with.
