I'm currently on latest openpli 7.3 image on my vu solo2 box. No issues.
Just want some advice from people who have made the update to openpli 8 and what pros and cons are?
Is there a way to keep all plugins softcams etc or do you have to do fresh install?
Thanks

If you make an autobackup (on USB or local disk), your configuration and (from the feed) installed plugins will be restored after a flash.

Functionally there isn't much change between 7.3 and 8.0, most of the changes are under the hood.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

It's a 'mipsel' and that's why I would either recommend the develop image directly or stick to 7.3.
For the mipsel boxes there is a lot to be mentioned in the current 8.0.

It is a CPU architecture, and yes, a Solo2 has a mipsel CPU.

The issue referred to is only relevant if you watch streams or downloaded media. If you do, you'd better wait for 8.1, which is due soon.

No, as WW already suggested why not make a Autobackup and install PLi 8 form the menu, it's a breeze If it's turns out to be flaky with the plugins you prefer, then again flash from the menu back to 7.3.

Note that external (self-installed) plugins aren't part of the backup/restore, so it might be less of a breeze if you have those.

tip: copy those ipk files into the backup directory, and they will automatically be reinstalled as part of the restore process.

Ok guys few more question's
40 said install pli 8 from menu, dont think this is possible is it?

I new self installed plugins are not part of the back up/restore. Just need to understand how i copy the ipk files into backup directory pls. Is this via telnet connection on pc?

Also with the autobackup/restore does it save installed softcams/oscams?

Yes, since 6.2 there is a "flash image" menu option in the setup menu.

When you activate the autobackup feature, it will ask you where you want to make your backup (by default this is /media/hdd for the local disk, but I use /media/usb, a USB stick). Once configured, do a manual backup, this will create the required folder structure.

In my case, I now have /media/usb/backup, with a number of backup files in it. Copy the ipk files you want to install into this directory. You can do that via FTP, via CIFS (f.e. Windows Explorer) or via SCP (if you have set a root password).

And yes, it does restore both the CCcam and Oscam package and configuration by default (assuming you have the versions from our feed, manually installed ones may have different directories for config files). If you have additional files you want backed up (for example configuration for you manually installed ipks), you can select those files or directories in the autobackup screen.

NB: If you do, do NOT select the entire /etc directory, chances are the box will not boot anymore if you restore such a backup on a different OpenPLi version !

Can i copy the ipk files from autobackup screen? From the etc directory or do i have to copy via ftp on pc?
In autobackup screen when you select files to backup non of the folders where ticked. I ticked them all and ran autobackup. Then read WW note not to select entire etc directory. When i click into the etc directory luckily it is not all selected. Only folder like enigma2,epg import, tuxbox, xtreameditor, backup.cfg, exports, hosts, resolv.conf, timezone, and wpa supplicant.conf are selected. Is that ok?
My backup location is hardrive as i have 500gb installed, is that ok or shall i put on usb?
I use autobouquetmaker will that restore when put new image on or do i have to back that up from somewhere?
Also my oscam is 1.20 svn build r11666-798
Is that from the feeds?
Shall i update image from menu flash image 8.0 vusolo2 260421

Based on your latest questions, I'd be tempted to stay on 7.3

If you do decide to update, make sure you take an image backup first, then you can easily get back to your 7.3, exactly as it was when you made the backup, should you get into difficulties.

I assume you know what you have manually installed and what not? So where your oscam and autobouquetsmaker came from? ;)

As to the selection, it would be handy to see if something was selected inside a directory, that would clear up some of the confusion. Maybe someone should make that.

The default selection is ok for most users.

And no, there is no option to copy files from the autobackup screen. You could install the filemanager from the plugins, which would allow you to copy files from for example a USB device.

The backup is only small. The reason I have it on USB is that I may swap it which testing different versions. Besides the fact none of my boxes have an internal disk :).

Im leaning towards ccs aswell and tempted to stay in 7.3.
By image backup i take you mean auto backup? What i liked to know is if i do decide to update to 8.0 and i run into problems. I flash back to 7.3 will it have all my exernal plugins and manually installed ipk as they where before I updated?
I would have just tried the update as i can add the plugins, ABM and epgimport etc. Its just i dont want to lose my oscam set up as I remember last i had to do a lot reading to set it up and cant remember how to do it again and will takes me ages to get it work again.
