Embedded subs are working great now with H9 boxes, when using default hisi Player.

Still it must be enabled manually.
Thanks for fixing!

@WanWizard

Zgemma has received both pull requests and only writes that they want to look at it.
Nothing has happened since then.
In principle, both things work.
(User-feedback)
I realize that the solution is definitely not perfect. But it works.
Should it be used as a patch?
Then I would send this pull request.
Or is no change to Hisi-player desired?

Subtiles embedded in mkv files (as srt) are not shown on a HiSil receiver (Maxytec Multibox SE)

Update 30-05-2021

The same files play on a HD2400 (mipsel) perfectly with subtitles.

Using the exteplayer3 bring back the subtitles. So there is a workaround.

Channels from the bouquetlist play correctly on the Multobox SE (with subtitles)

I did notice that when you disable the "ServiceApp" the subtitles work when the srt file is baked into mkv.
ServiceApp continues to be an obstacle for mkv files.

Always note, this is about Hisi.
From a formal point of view, the service app should not be used here.
I would even disable this option.
The hisi player is ffmpeg and should provide the functions of the exteplayer3.
If you also install the service app, the two ffmpeg-based players are no longer properly separated.
The service app is primarily designed and built for the gst based system that has been installed.

But then another problem surfaces:

When using (a legal) IPTV stream (HLS)

On my HD2400, need the serviceapp and exte3player for this stream to play.  (as 4097 or 1 stream it does not play)

#SERVICE 5002:0:1:1:0:32:0:0:0:3:http%3a//api.new.livestream.com/accounts/27755193/events/8452383/live.secure.m3u8:TV Limburg
#DESCRIPTION TV Limburg

You get then the choice to choose between the different resolutions.  See attachement.

Attached File  TV Limburg 2756000b_s - 1280x720_20210617141826.jpg   137.66KB   2 downloads

This also works on the HiSi receiver - with serviceapp installed.

But on the HiSi receiver this stream also plays when I denote it as 4097

#SERVICE 4097:0:1:1:0:32:0:0:0:3:http%3a//api.new.livestream.com/accounts/27755193/events/8452383/live.secure.m3u8:TV Limburg
#DESCRIPTION TV Limburg

So no exte3player needed.

However one big problem.  The stream starts in the lowest resolution 640x360 and stays there.

And there is no menu item (normally the green button) to select the substation with an higher resolution.

Attached File  4097_0_1_1_0_32_0_0_0_3_20210617142902.jpg   63.53KB   2 downloads

Conclusion:  I still need the serviceapp and exte3player.

The m3u8 contains a list of URL's for the different resolutions, which is what the menu shows you, appearently the HiSil player just picks the first one...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

I tried to get the URL's out of this file, but not much of a result yet.  (trying to download the live.secure.m3u8 file failed)

With VLC on a PC it also starts in the lowest resolution but switches a bit later to the highest.

The playlist in VLC looks like this:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:31,live.secure.m3u8
#EXTVLCOPT:network-caching=1000
http://api.new.livestream.com/accounts/27755193/events/8452383/live.secure.m3u8

So not much help.

Download the m3u check its contents and find the higher resolution link then define it instead of the generic one. This is of course just a workaround.

Did some test with GB News.

I was succesfull with this:

#SERVICE 4097:0:19:D093:83E:2:11A0000:0:0:0:https%3a//live-gbnews.simplestreamcdn.com/gbnews/gbnews/bitrate1.isml/bitrate1-audio_0=192000-video=4499968.m3u8:GB News

The first line goes immediately to the wanted resolution.

The second line gives you the choice to select the resolution.

No problem here.

PS: it would be nice if the HiSil player offers you the same choice.

Plays with exte3player and offers you the choice of resolution.

Streams which previously needed exte3player, play on the HiSil player.  But no choice of resolution is offered.

Yes, it was just a very simple attempt.
It couldn't really have an impact on its own.
The handling of the m3uh list would still have to be assigned to the 'C'.
Unfortunately, Zgemma only responds to inquiries to a limited extent.
Therefore the complete internal solution should be initiated first.
The good guys from Neutrino actually presented all of that.
There, libeplayer2 (exteplayer3) will continue to be used as the basis.

https://github.com/T...bstb-hal-tangos
https://github.com/T...aster/libarmbox

In principle, this would have to be rewritten as Service_exte3 and would then replace the servicehislicon
Until Zgemma has accepted the m3uh handling, there will probably not be any more multoboxes available.

It looks like a fallback is presented for players that can't play the original format/codec they're using. And apparently gstreamer and/or HiSil player are such players. The content providers are not required to use a codec that a DVB player can decode. Which is something I already have been saying for years.
