All OpenPLi images use the user "root", and no password.

Note that this is different from a blank password,so if you want to use ssh or sftp, or password protect the web interface, you need to telnet into the box first to set a password (or use the password plugin).

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

You might have put some minor effort in searching our WIKI. There is explained how telnet works.

If I had all the knowledge I had no questions at all.

You can also, like I said, install the password plugin and use your TV remote to enter a password.

1. downlaod "PuTTY" application and run it

2. paste the IP address of your set-top-box

3. choose "Telnet" as connection type (do not use SSH yet)

4. then click on the "Open" button with the mouse

5. as login name please use "root" and as password use the blank one (press the ENTER key)

6. write and use the command passwd to change the root password

I will dissapoint you. Microsoft and Telnet or SSH protocols are not friends. There are a long list of bugs or incompatible issues (such as key authentication issues for the SSH protocol).

PuTTY is a universal "terminal" (you can set really everything there - for example, the format of the console characters, even for old terminal types of connections), while Microsoft uses only some "one-time console". You can do a lot of things with PuTTY, but nothing with Microsoft. The paradox is also that you have to pay for a Windows system, but PuTTY is free :). Nevertheless, PuTTY is a better product - although it's free :).

I am not a supporter of 100 applications installed. Unfortunately, in the case of Windows OS, you have no other option.

If you are an IT professional, a developer or a technical type of person, you must have your ProcessExplorer, your TotalCommander, your basic graphics editing applications such as PhotoFiltreStudio, what is better as a built-in Windows app for basic editing of images (it is really useless and ridiculous), etc. ... and unfortunately, the so-called "terminal connection" is also no exception - you need at least PuTTY, because in Windows it is not possible to use their "Telnet" and also "SSH" and others .. such as FTP client ... etc. etc. etc. .

And I note that I used to work as a system administrator a long time ago. It really doesn't work well with these built-in tools in Windows. If you use it once a year, it won't interfere. But if you have to use it more than once a day, it's a waste of time and nerves :).

I've always used windows telnet, does what I want, and as the poster will probably only use it once, I'm sure he'll be happy too.
