The Mutant HD2400 has been restarting spontaneous.  This has happened 2 times in 2 weeks time.

This evening I was watching football (at least the pre match discussions) on één HD.  And the receiver restarted spontaneously.  (no recordings were active or scheduled)

The previous time  this happened was around last 2 june.

The receiver has been equipped with the development image.

Th hung one was today from june 2, 20121

A spontaneous reboot is not that bad, but the receiver wont start through.  I hanged on the message:  Loading udev.

Tried to restart several times, but no change.  It hangs on the same udev message.

Because of this hung receiver, I could not look for a crash log.  But I doubt there is one, as no GSOD has been displayed.

However, I can reflash the receiver with the latest development image.  Restored also the autobackup with no problem.

After this the receiver works normal.

Anybody any idea why this can be happening?

Udev is the hardware device manager, but I can't think of any reason why it would "hang", even on some sort of hardware error.

Defective power supply probably, I had this with my brand new Solo 4K the seller had to send me a replacement part.

Do not misunderstand.  I do not know if this is the culprit.

On the screen this is the last thing shown.  (Loading udev - or something with udev).

The box then hangs.  Nothing happens.

The curious thing is that the box can be flashed with an USB-stick containing the image and backup.

Probably the 'Crash'-ShutDown destroyed the start files.
This happens again and again with Ubuntu.
Ubuntu can do this from console repair with fschk.
Surely there would be some way to get on the box to do something similar.

Don't know...
But a reflash is faster.

The question remains, why does it 'crash'

No idea.  In this case it was during normal watching of a sat channel.

Of course something could be started in the background.  Although nothing was planned (EPGimport, autotimer, recording, cron job)

So memory full, would not be the first culprit.

Something near the end of its life?  (like Pr2 suggested - the power supply)

From the OE-Alliance forums you can reads about some mips receivers from the Zeus branch that are similar behavior that cannot be explained.
If an image from the previous branch was then installed, the same boxes ran again without any problems.
The hd2400 is one of them.
Difficult to say where the cause of the phenomenon is.
In that case I don't believe in gcc / glibc.
Mdev - udev is also unlikely.
Little has been heard of the problems in the Pli.
Maybe you can still test a 7.3 image and see if the same problems arise.

There are definitely issues in Zeus with glibc on MIPS, we've had them before. Erik can probably fill you in.

Problem is that several plug-ins do not work anymore on PLi 7.3 (and 8.0).

Like Foreca on 7.3 and service app on 8.0
