Sometimes it happens that the internet connection fails for a few seconds. Is there a network connection record to identify the cause of the failure?

OpenPLi 8.1-release (2021-09-09-release-8.1)

You might check the output of "dmesg" when that happens.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

I wonder wich box we are talking about, eg ET8000 or ET10000 ?  " ethtool " as well " ifconfig " might be your friend in this matter checking for errors or packets dropped.

Nothing special, it re-authenticates every now and then, which is normal.

There is also another box in another LAN. The box has an uptime of 41 days and only one authentication. It works great

root@formuler4turbo:~# dmesg | grep wlan
[ 11.279000] wlan0: authenticate with e0:5a:9f:6c:e6:b8
[ 11.313000] wlan0: send auth to e0:5a:9f:6c:e6:b8 (try 1/3)
[ 11.327000] wlan0: authenticated
[ 11.333000] wlan0: associate with e0:5a:9f:6c:e6:b8 (try 1/3)
[ 11.351000] wlan0: RX AssocResp from e0:5a:9f:6c:e6:b8 (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=2)
[ 11.368000] wlan0: associated

Can there be a problem with the USB wireless adapter or wireless router?

If they both have a usb wireless adapter maybe switch them and see what happens?

It happens according to the log every 100.000 seconds or much less often (up to a million seconds). Which means every day (or every 10 days) one time. Doesn't sound to be a big problem.

Maybe reception of WLAN signal is not good. Try to move the box or antenna.

Take a extension cable for the USB wireless adapter and place it away from the stb. On a Vu+ Uno 4K I have problem that the new Hdd was disturbing the USB wireless adapter. So you can exclude this and maybe get a better signal.

How can a HDD have an effect on the WiFi signal or have an influence on the WiFi usb adapter?

A harddisk is a big and sometimes heavy metal block, so theoretically that could be of influence.

I used to use a 5m USB extension cable for my mobile box, so I could use the USB adapter as a sort of antenna, and position it as optimally as possible (i.e. higher, closer, etc).

Wifi adapter is connected via 1.5m cable.
i can't find out if there is a problem in the wifi adapters or the wifi router.

Hi.

And what about your WiFi router? What is the manufacturer and type? Isn't there a LOG there too? Or is it a lightweight router without these conveniences like LOG?

Try connecting your USB WiFi dongle to your laptop or desktop PC to see if it works properly. If so, then it is not a hardware problem, but a software problem. The slight error will be in the firmware settings, from your WIFI router or in the WiFi configuration settings in Linux (in your set-top box). Or maybe BUG in USB WiFi dongle drivers, for Linux (on your set-top box).

Regarding "dmesg" diagnostics, it is better to open the "/var/log/messages" file directly with the system logs - in an external FTP client. Then look for terms (using a text editor) in this file, such as: "network", "error" or "fail".

Try modifying the WiFi USB dongle configuration (in Enigma2-GUI) or try modifying the WiFi router configuration to a different type of security... for example, instead of WPA2-AES, try WPA2-TKIP. Or try setting a fixed WiFi channel so that it does not change itself (automaticaly). Try to adjust / switch the used band range: 20 MHz; 40 MHz; 20/40 MHz.

Or try to find and turn off USB power saving mode somewhere in your set-top box.
