Vu+ Duo2 freezes/locks up

I've got a Duo2 that randomly freezes/locks up. This can be just watching tv or playback of recorded material, during recording or just sitting standby.

I've found that older Pli image(6.2) is more stable than the newest, but not perfekt, just less freezes. Maybe due to smaller image, memory problem?

I had another Duo2 laying around so I swapped over HDD and tuners to that box, and now it's working perfectly with a backup image.

So it has to be a hardware problem I think. Anyone experienced the same? Would like to fix this box again if it's possible.

Define "freeze" / "lock up".

 

Does the image freeze? Do you see a spinner? Does the web interface still work? Can you still login with telnet/ssh? Can you still ping the box?


Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

sounds like the still occurring problem for mips.
It seems to have gotten better, but probably not perfect.
glibc probably still.
Thinking ahead, a test from the hardknott branch would be interesting here.
But then again there is no feedback.

I hope to be able to start building test images for hardnott soon, so it can be tested by a wider audience.

Construction works for most boxes.
Image works too, but of course there is always something to do.

I will as soon as I've made provisions for it in our buildfarm. Will not be earlier than sometime next week.

I don't see any lockup/freeze on vuduo2: the current 8.1 image is rock stable.

IMHO it must be some plugin not behaving.

 

As far as I see there isn't any special mips-related issue but maybe I just never encountered it.

I would much prefer if we could keep the vanilla OE glibc unpatched.

I am happy about any positive feedback.
regarding glibc
Without glibc patches, no mips would be running.
There are a number of patches just for mips.

The glibc in the 'ZEUS' branch made some mips receivers unusable for a long time.
However, not all receivers were equally affected.
Fewer problems have been reported here since 8.1.
So it is possible that there is a hardware defect here.

If the box has an in-built harddisk, does the situation improve if you disconnect it (from the power)?

I never ever experienced power issues on my embedded powersupply so no external PSU.


Mijn schotel is een T90 met 10 LNB's. Daarnaast voor de fun nog een draaibaar systeem met een Triax TD 78.

Dreamboxen heb ik niet meer echt actief. Verder heb ik ook nog een een VU+ duo2 met 500Gb harddisk + een VU+ Uno, Zero, Solo 4K, Ultimo 4K, Zero 4K, Uno 4Kse. + ook nog een Xtrend ET7x00. Daarnaast heb ik ook nog diverse andere modellen w.o. een Formuler F4, ET8500, ET7500, Mut@nt 2400HD, Xsarius Fusion HD se en verder nog wel het e.e.a. waarmee op verzoek vanalles wordt getest. Iemand moet het tenslotte doen. ;) :)
Los van de eerder genoemde modellen heb ik nog wel een rits aan testsamples als Mut@nt 2400HD, HD60, GB UE4K, GB Trio4K, Maxitec Multibox combo en Twin, Octagon sf8008, sf8008 mini en last but nog least enkele modellen van het Grieks Duitse Edision.

Voor centrale opslag van media gebruik ik een Qnap 219P met tweemaal 2 Tb harddisks + een Synology DS414 met 12 Tb Totale opslag.

Image freeze with picture on the screen, sometime spinner, other times not. No logs. Can not ping the box.

No problems with 8.1 on the other box. And this is a complete backup image including all plugins from the freezing box, so nothing wrong with image/plugins I think.

Same problem on my old duo2. Random freezing. HW problem ...

 

That's what I suspect too. Do you know if it's relatet to mb or psu?

Dont know. I threw it in ebin because of other problems (dead hdmi and lan port).

Nearly a month now since I swapped over the psu from the faulty box, and no lock ups anymore. 

So the fault is definitely in the motherboard.
