My stepdad records TV quite a lot, he does this using a DVD recorder (I'm amazed as well) and as of late its gears have shattered to bits of old age.

 

Now I'm looking for a DVB-C receiver that checks these marks:

 

It has to be relatively cheap.

It has to have space for an internal hard disk.

 

My search lead me to believe the "Ustym 4K PRO" has an internal SATA connector? They do sell a model with "internal HDD" on their site, but the manual doesn't mention it.

 

I have a DM8000, but it is showing its age (broken plastic) and is missing the remote so I can't give it to him to test it out.

From what I understand there's a v1 mainboard without HDD support, and a v2 mainboard with HDD support.

 

And for the v2, it is a factory installed SANDisk module, so it is probably either a large eMMC or perhaps an M.2 SATA module. It does not have a SATA connector.

 

But: we haven't seen one in the wild yet, and I haven't been able to find detailed information.

Maybe I should hunt for a Vu+ Uno or the step up from that the Zero 4K with the USB addon dock?

The Zero4K requires the additiona PVR-Kit €35 and a 2.5” HDD/SSD. Apart from that they offer extreme value for money. Unfortunately - due to the shortage of chips - it’s price flew up from €125 to €169. Be sure to get the DVB-C/T2 version and not the DVB-S2X version…
