Since I have enigma boxes, I've seen a problem in one of the RAI Hoit Bird Transponders.

 

It's the one that carries Rai 1, Rai 2, Rai 3...  10992 V in DVB-S

 

Channel names appear and dissapear continously.

You see all channel names like this: 10992 V SID 0x213f   ... and a few minutes later they appear correctly. , and a few minutes more they go wrong again.....

 

It's SDT table reading problem ?

It happens with no other Hot Bird Transponder.

 

 

PS Today, almost all RAI HD channels have gone FTA because some SD have been deleted.

I can confirm fresh scan show the name RAI 1 but after the name is turned into 110992V SID 0x213f

 

But this is perhaps an "end of life" TP which is probably replaced by:  DVB-S2 11766 V 29900 3/4 8PSK on 13.O°E  which is the HD equivalent.

That "problem" is present from years and years ago on these channels.

It has been happening on all Enigma boxes I've had, 

Channel names appear and dissapear when you tune to other frequencies and go back to these ones. 

It's SDT Background scanning which does it.

I know I can disable SDT Backg. scanning, or I can add a flag to channels on this Tp. to disable, but  it should work fine like on all other channels.

 

This Tp.is not an "end of life", because yesterday they added 3 HD channels when deleting SD ones.

They moved channels among all 3 Tp.

Ok, I am downloading the file thanks. (sorry for asking you for a ts dump, I don't remember where I have my notes on how to record one in enigma2 and If I can do it successfully in my box anyway.)

 

 

You can also see the same behavior by repeatedly scanning this transponder (e.g. with sat finder). Some times the channels get named, some tines not.

I have also see the same thing with a transponder at 16E (one of the transponder carrying the arena sport channels, not remember which exactly and I can't receive 16E now).

I don't know how to record a full TS dump on an enigma receiver. Are you sure is it possible ?

I do it easily with a TBS box.

 

SDT PID (17) has actual TS and other TS on this Tp. 

That's the only thing I think it should be the problem.

Ok, you wrote it when I was writing my previous post.

 

Anyway, this method it's not a REAL "FULL TS DUMP", it's an "ALL PIDs DUMP"

I correctly remembered that you have a tbs. That's why I asked for a ts dump, knowing it would be easier for you.

 

I also figured out that there is actual and other sdt tables for that transponder, which perhaps is the cause of the problem. I will continue looking into the code tomorrow.

OK, I found the problem. Now I am looking for the best solution.

 

This problem is indeed caused because there are both 0x42 (actual) and 0x46 (other) SDT tables transmitted, as we already figured out.

 

enigma2 is bugged because it sets a filter for both of them! This was done in an effort to fix SDT reading for "dish network" back in 2006 (they only use/used 0x46 tables, thus breaking the specification) https://github.com/O...d03460f5d86R166

The "true" in the eDVBSDTSpec call means that both 0x42 and 0x46 filtering will be done. So, for RAI enigma2 some times fetches the actual SDT table that carries the service names, some times it fetches the other SDT table that carries no names at all. https://github.com/O...dvb/specs.h#L70

The other 2 RAI Tps. don't have this problem. It has only been seen in that transponder, and for ages............

It seems a rare bug, as transponders carrying both  0x42 and 0x46 tables for them (their tsid) is not common.

 

Problem is that I am not aware if the dish network fix is still needed today. In my opinion breaking other stuff is not proper fixing anyway, but it is what it is.

 

Can any of the pli members tell me what it should be the proper way to correct it? I mean the fix is as easy as calling eDVBSDTSpec with "false" in scan.cpp https://github.com/O...b/scan.cpp#L354 but this would not be compatible with dish network. That is if they still are in need of the fix made in 2006.

This is not a fix.

 

This is asking the users to modify their settings file because enigma2 is bugged in an attempt to fix a provider (dish network) that does not follow the specification.

 

jpuigs already mentioned he is aware of this solution in post #3.
