Has it anything to do with smaller file size?

Restart time is nearly half of others, GUI restart is almost instant!

General operation is faster too. (Calling channel selection screen, menu operations, etc.)

Any advice what to uninstall mainly on other images to achieve this speed?

Pity it doesn't support HBBTv which I use regularly on my SF8008, otherwise it would certainly be my no.1 image.

Never experienced a (large) boottime difference between images. I own different boxes. Difference is mostly LAN/WLAN based where the box has to wait for a device to become ready…

I think the stability and speed (if there is any difference) are coming from a fact that they do not merge garbage (hacked-together-to-just-work) code. For example fast channel changing is this type of code.

I have also tested other images but I always comeback to OpenPLi.
The main differences are that OpenPLi doesn't include all the possible drivers and many plugins out of the box.
So when you are starting OpenPLi is less user-friendly because you need to find what to install to have some features like EPGImport for exemple.
On other images they load many plugins so newbies find it easy they plug an USB tuner it works, you need EPG Import you have it.
So once you know what you really use and then need you switch to OpenPLi and install them.

In OpenPli you never had to ask what to delete but what to add.

And the default skin is also for me the best, all others skins that I test never fullfil my expectations many technical informations are missing. Other skins have many renderer that just slow down the GUI, personally I don't care to have the weather, the sport result, the SoC and HDD temperatures but I'd like to easily find the service id of a channel.
An efficient skin also contribue to the speed feeling of the GUI. And I'd like too that it's a HD skin.

ViX, for example, preloads 11 drivers, with 47 down to the user if he needs them.

Do you really think that the average user wants that?

As I mention newbies don't want that but experimented users knows what they are using.

I cannot speak about ViX image I never used it.

You can never please all of the people all of the time.

And it has to be said that an OpenPLi image isn't that user friendly, for the average end-user, that could be improved without dressing the image up as a christmas tree...

It is the traditional problem of having geeks make something. You get something only geeks can use... :)

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Well said. I find OpenPLi way more user friendly than, say, a Horizon box. But maybe I'm a geek...

It should be more user friendly to change the image to your liking. Every time I see a response that starts with "go to the commandline" if someone asks a question, I cringe...

I often give some command line to install some packages available in the feed because I know for sure the package name to install without having to explain where it is in the plugin sub-categories.  :)

I know, but the average end-user has no clue what a commandline is, and should not be burdened with it.

Imagine you ask Samsung on how to enable Netflix on the TV, and they reply with "first you make sure your TV is network connected, then install Putty and you telnet to the TV...." ;)
