I'm tired. I wanted to investigate this further, write a proper bug report, but I have enough. No more firmware updates. No more fresh installs. No more reentering all the settings. So here, you get this info, and then I'm done for today. (Maybe I investigate it further next week. Maybe next year. Maybe never.)

First problem:

Sometimes I get glitchy video. On some installations I get glitchy video on the built-in tuner, and the plug-in tuner is fine. On some installations it is the other way round. (See images). And sometimes the OpenPLI installation just fine.

When I have glitchy video on the build-in tuner, it usually affects all programs. On the plug-in tuner it is better for some, worse for others...

Second problem:

I have Unicable with one channel assigned to Tuner A, and one channel assigned to Tuner B.

What should happen e.g. with PiP?

I watch two different programs from the Unicable LNB, I should get one prog on Tuner A, and prog one on Tuner B. This works in GigaBlue original software.

On some OpenPLI installations it works like that.

But on some other OpenPLI installations I get Tuner A, and (virtual) Tuner C, both trying to use the same Unicable channel. Sometimes A win. Sometimes C wins. Sometimes none show video.

(I never got a installation were both worked in OpenPLI - so yeah, maybe that helps...)

63% reception is just about 10dB, which is quite marginal for an FBC tuner, which are a lot less sensitive than single DVB-S tuners.

If you have a unicable setup, and have configured A and B for a unique SCR, you have only two options for C to H: either FBC SCR, for which you have to assign a unique SCR to the virtual tuner as well, or FBC automatic, which will render the tuner inactive. In the first case tuner C will have its own SCR, in the second case it will not be used.

If you say "FBC automatic choses the wrong tuner", you have a configuration issue, because in a unicable setup, a tuner gets a single transponder. So either the second channel is on the same transponder, in which case the tuner can be reused (and no second is needed), or not, in which case a second tuner and second user band is needed. In neither of these scenario's, a virtual tuner is used.

If I zap to a channel, press Blue, Blue to open that channel in PiP, then zap again, the PiP uses tuner A, the main screen uses tuner B.

My FBC tuner is configured like this:

Attached File  1_0_19_283D_3FB_1_C00000_0_0_0_20220109162249.jpg   131.8KB   3 downloads

( as my Unicable switch only provides 6 User Bands per port ), tuners G and H are never used.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Have you tried an image with updated ( latest ) drivers.

OK, this problem was resting on my mind, I could not wait till next week...

63% reception is just about 10dB, which is quite marginal for an FBC tuner, which are a lot less sensitive than single DVB-S tuners.

Have you tried an image with updated ( latest ) drivers.

Both good points!

First problem (garbled video on Tuner J)

I narrowed the first problem down (garbled video) - hurrah!

I can reproduce the problem both on OpenPLI and on (newest) original GigaBlue software (so problem is present in latest GigaBlue firmware/driver).

Signal strength is not the issue (tested with big and small antenna, and also switched cables).

It seems I can reliably reproduce garbled video ONLY on Tuner J.

(Tuner A, Tuner B, and Tuner I seem OK so far - I probably tested sometimes Tuner I, and sometimes Tuner J, that's why I could see the problem only sometimes... bah!).

I filed today a support request with GigaBlue for the first problem.

Second problem (Unicable with FBC Tuner A/C or FBC Tuner B/C)

Could not yet addressed the second problem (Unicable with FBC tuner). I could not reproduce the Unicable/FBC problem with fresh install of OpenPLI (fresh GigaBlue install also seems OK).

Seems like a imported config problem (config from my SF8008 Twin). Maybe. Maybe not.

Signal strength is not the issue.

Will see when I find time and energy for the second problem.

First problem (garbled video on Tuner J)

A similar problem was on the second tuner Xrend et9000, only at frequencies with high flow rates(30000 and more).

It's always a bad idea to take the configuration (/etc/enigma2/settings) from one box to another brand one.  You can have problem with Tuner setup.

Even if you swap tuner in slot into the same box you will get troubles.

https://wiki.openpli..._tuner_problems

It's a small remarks in the wiki but very important.

It is better to clean the Nim settings and set then again.

Fresh install of OpenPLI (and fresh GigaBlue install) work OK (as far as I can see same settings for Unicable LNBs).

OK behavior is this:

I watch program on Tuner A (Unicable). I select PiP program, and Tuner B (different Unicable channel) is used for PiP. All is fine - hurrah!

Buggy behavior is this:

I watch program on Tuner A (Unicable). I select PiP program, and Tuner C (same!!! Unicable channel as Tuner A) is attempted to be used for PiP. DOES NOT WORK

When setup tuner C is "FBC automatic" and PiP service polarization same with tuner A, but the frequency is different, then tuner C will be used.

Not if A is defined as a Unicable SCR. Because in that case A doesn't receive a quadrant, but only a single transponder.

This receiver is driving me insane...

I tested one more time... And now Tuner I was garbled...And Tuner J was working...

And then suddenly both Tuner I and Tuner J started working. Both now working fine. All the programs that reliably caused problems? Now running fine.

But I think I have seen enough. I have to decide soon whether I will send the receiver back, so I get my money back. I need two working MultiStream tuners, and this is useless for me.

It's sad, otherwise it would be a nice box.

Yes, only one, but any transponder in the same polarization. Just checked it out and it's tuner C.

Why does tuner C use the same unicable channel as tuner A? That is not allowed? Tuner C must use a different unicable channel

Yes, only one, but any transponder in the same polarization. Just checked it out and it's tuner C.

How is that possible in a Unicable setup?

The switch or LNB will send only 1 transponder via a User Band to tuner A. There is no "same polarisation", it is not DISeqC. The only way C can be used is if it is configured for FBC SCR with a unique user band.

How is that possible in a Unicable setup?

This universal LNB

The only way C can be used is if it is configured for FBC SCR with a unique user band.

Perhaps this is a miracle, but the tuner C has been working for me for many years with this setting :) .

tuner A universal LNB

tuner C-H is "FBC automatic"

With Legacy/Universal LNB that is true.

But @internaut uses a unicable setup from my point of view. For unicable you must configure different SCR numbers and frequencies for all tuner on the same unicable output of the unicable LNB or unicable switch
