'latest' means the latest package available from the creator, and if this is 04-07-2007 so be it

Hmmm. Interesting attitude, dude...
I was just asking about how useful is a feature without being complete. A channel list ain't 'stupid' - as making a complete one for a motor setup for example, is a real pain in the ass.
Anyway, perhaps you could have a look here: http://www.vhannibal.net/
He has weekly updated channel lists. Maybe it would be really useful to include his work in the downloads section.
Sorry, if I offended you or anyone...

The reason for the reaction was that Henksat had some personal reasons why he wasn't able to update his settings the last few months. You couldn't have known that, but I hope you understand. I believe Henksat is slowly starting work on his settings again and we all hope he will be able to update them very soon again, but give him some slack

(I hope I'm not out of my league here speaking for Henksat)

I thougt that there may be something like this in the background. I am not mad at Henksat or anyone else - this is something people like Henksat do in their free time, well, I understand as many others do, that this is what you get and that means a lot....Henksat had some personal reasons why he wasn't able to update his settings the last few months. You couldn't have known that...
This is exactly why I was suggesting to display the creation date in the download menu of the box (taken automatically from the file date, for example), so that the user could at least estimate how old is that channel list. There are many channel lists to choose from, not only Henksat's, so I still think that having a date in paranthesis in the download list, for all the channel list setting archives, would be really useful.
The user could choose better between the products of the different channel list creators, and the lists themselves. Or he/she could decide to rather scan a satellite, if the available lists are not new enough.

we do that for the e2 downloads, in fact that's a requirement because we use ipkg for all e2 downloads, including the service setting lists.
For e1 however, we're using ppanels for the downloads, and you might imagine it would require a change in the ppanel each time the date changes.
So for that type of downloads, it's much easier to use unversioned files.
So we have both variants, depending on the requirements of the download mechanism.
