Newest build openpli 8.1
I turned on automatic timeshift after 2 second. After turning on octagon works very slow. I cannot even change channel all the time I have icon in corner that tuner is working. Even turn on options is a problem. When I turn off timeshift - tuner is working perfect. Recording is working without problem. Disk also is not a problem because I changed for a while on openatv and on this soft timeshift is works without problem. I take my disk to zgemma h5 with newest openpli and timeshift there is working perfect
So on octagon any soft problem ???

Wat version are we exactly talking about? As there isn't a "new build" of "OpenPLi 8,1"
You are sure you have configured the location for timeshift properly? This sounds like it is trying to write to a location that isn't accessable...
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

I won't have access to my SF8008 until the end of next week. But I can't imagine it being hardware dependent, and the code is identical for all boxes...
Bump this topic after the 7th, if not resolved by then,

Did you format the SD card in the STB or do you format it on your PC and plug it into the STB?
Can you please try to format the SD from OpenPLi to have it formatted into ext4 and give another try with timeshift.
Be also careful with low cost SD card I have a theoretically a 1 TB SD card into my PC (Ubuntu) which I cannot format in anything else than FAT32, it just fakely report to be a 1 TB SD card so it is totally useless.

Yes, the SD card was formatted using OpenPLI, a timeshift directory was created, and the recording path was set. I will add that the external drive is also formatted using OpenPLI, ext4 and timeshift works on another receiver, and on SF8008, after turning on timeshift after 2 seconds, slow switching, lags , spinner

Not fully clear to me you are using a SD card in the internal SF8008 reader or are you using an external HDD connected to USB?
The problem with external HDD is that the USB port of the SF8008 may not delivered enough power for the external HDD, what you can then try is pass an externally powered USB Hub between the SF8008 and the USB HDD. It will then be the USB Hub that will provide the power to the HDD.

I permanently use a disk mounted as an hdd formatted in ext4, the disk works flawlessly, recording, playback, no problems with power supply, the same disk worked in zgemma h7, without any problems, including timeshift, on sf8008 everything works perfectly except the timeshift option, To make sure, I installed an SD card, formatted by the system, with the saved paths set, and the result was exactly the same as with the external drive.

Why timeshift to the SD card when you have a harddisk available? Have you tested that? Does that work?

I can test after next week, when mine arrives.
Having said that, afaik the Card Reader is not connected to the JMicron USB controller?

I did some initial testing.
If I choose to record the timeshift on slow media, I see s spinner flash up briefly when the timeshift starts, but a spinner shows up for quite a while when zapping, as it tries to delete the temporary timeshift file.
Can you test with a network filesystem (cifs or nfs) connected to another box or NAS, to rule out the USB connection ( I tested here over wifi which is high latency too, and there I also see the spinner pop up on zap ).

I'm afraid that the disk/SD card is not a problem, because the SD card is a fast card, about 30MB for writing and reading, the HDD is connected via a USB3 adapter, transfer of large files from the laptop via WiFi 30-50MB, the same disk on the Zgemma H7 works with timeshift without no problems, interestingly

An STB is not a PC you cannot compare transfer speed to an HDD with the transfer speed you will get on the same HDD in your STB. Same applied for network, the internal bus on the STB is often the limitation.

What you wrote is obvious, I just wanted to point out that all operations on the disk connected to stb work perfectly, except for timeshift
root@sf8008:~# hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb1
/dev/sdb1:
Timing cached reads: 1396 MB in 2.00 seconds = 697.98 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 102 MB in 3.01 seconds = 33.83 MB/sec
root@sf8008:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/hdd/testfile bs=8k count=10k; rm -f /media/hdd/testfile
10240+0 records in
10240+0 records out
