I assume you copy and pasted the name including the dot from somewhere, instead of typing in the utf8 character? If so, if the source you copied it from isn't utf8, the pasted result isn't.

It appears (busybox) ls related. I copied a bullet from Wikipedia (unicode) and:
# > ••••.txt # ls ????.txt # echo * ••••.txt # rm ••••.txt # rm ••••.txt rm: can't remove '••••.txt': No such file or directory
If I do this on a raspberry pi, ls shows bullets, not question marks.
A bug was filed years ago, but it should be fixed in our version...
