Hi everyone,

I have been an OpenPLi user for more than a decade, so thank you folks for all your efforts and the amazing work that you're doing.

I'm about to purchase a sat box, and looking for recommendation. Right now 95% of the channels that I'm watching are in SD. I have one dish connected to one receiver that I would like to replace.

The goal is to use this new receiver to watch the streams (sat channels) from Televisions inside the local network. I have a decent wifi router so I'm not really worried about internal bandwidth, but to be on the safe side the transcoding feature would be perfect just in case. I never needed to record anything from live TV.

I have been considering Vu+ Zero 4k and OCTAGON SF8008 4K. I think the most important feature would be the stability and robustness, I really hate it when I have to force reboot a hung device  :)

I'm open to any suggestions.

I personally would have a slight preference for the SF8008, given the fact it has a HiSilicon chipset.

I can stream 4 HD channels simultaneously from the SF8008 over wifi. The 5th doesn't start, so I think that is a hardware limitation (not enough demuxers).  But if you can will highly depend on the quality of your setup (not bandwidth, but latency, jitter, and interference from other wireless clients). So YMMV.

Afaik both have only one hardware transcoder, so only one transcoded stream. The SF8008 can transcode at full HD (1080p25), the VU+ is limited to 720p.

As to wifi, the SF8008 has 802.11n, while the VU+ has 802.11ac, which is potentially faster. If relevant, as 4 HD channels is around 40Mbps. With the same caveats as to your wireless setup and number of demuxers available...

Also, the VU+ has space for a disk, the SF8008 doesn't, and the SF8008 models with wifi are Dual tuner.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

I really respect your dedication in providing the best help and advice to others, much appreciated!

So forgive my ignorance please. With 1 LNB cable, how many channels should I be able to watch simultaneously and I'm assuming they must all be on the same frequency?

All channels should be on the same transponder, and as I wrote, I think the maximum is 4 (or 3 if the box is used locally).

HiSi seems to have issues with blending. Some images are worse than others but all seem to exhibit it to some degree.

Sf8008 twin sat tuner and unicable lnb over a single cable will allow simultaneous recordings from 2 transponders. Or from a Universal lnb, 2 transponders on one sub band.

Sf8008 has decent tuners and blindscan.
