Never seen that before. Are those TXT subs or DVB subs?
And which OpenPLi is running?
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

There are some issues with the framebuffer layer on that type of boxes, which are being worked on. You can also notice it when you open the multiEPG, you can clearly see it being redrawn.
Make an autobackup of your 8.2 configuration, flash the current nightly build into a spare slot, and restore the autobackup after bootup, so your config is identical. And see if that makes a difference.

Hello,
This issue is still present after 15+ months. I am still hoping for resolution of the problem.
For the test I installed OpenATV and there seems to be no flickering.
You mentioned framebuffer layer. I was inspecting modules and noticed there is one called hi_fb.ko.
Is the root of the fault in this file or other place in OpenPLi code?
Can I copy the file from OpenATV to try it on OpenPLi or they are not interchangeable?

The "flickering" is caused by the screen being refreshed from the framebuffer while the framebuffer is being written.
You see the same thing in other parts of the GUI, like the MPEPG or the virtual keyboard, everywhere where there are a lot of graphical elements, especially if alphablending is used (which wouldn't surprise me on graphical subs with a transparent background).
It is a generic driver issue on all boxes with a HiSilicon chipset.
OE-A (which ATV uses) has a hack that freezes screen updates during writes. That removes the flickering, but also delays interaction and output, creating an often unacceptable lag on the output, so we haven't implemented it.
