If you now run

tune2fs -l /dev/sda1

again, is "64bit" now present in the feature list?

Now it doesn't even see the disk partition anymore.

Unless you have issues with the power- or SATA cable damaged or not being properly connected (check this first), this disk is beyond repair and needs to be replaced.

Depends on what you want, I can't help you with disks in PC's.

Just stick the disk back in the box, make sure the cables are correctly connected, then initialize the disk from the expert settings, harddisk menu. And when finished, restart the box from the menu ( never ever just switch the box off or disconnect the power, it is a computer, not a fridge! ).

When done you should have a single partition, 18TB. Use the tune2fs command from before to check if 64bit is listed in the features, and if not, use the mkfs.ext4 command from before to format the new partition in 64-bit mode.

If this is true: https://unix.stackex...-logical-volume

then there is no way to extend the partition size above 16TB, as the operating system is 32-bit (and the 64bit ext4 will not work).

I can't think of anything else.

You had a partition smaller than 16TB before?

First, verify you don't have partitions on the disk:

parted /dev/sda print

if it lists a partiion, you can delete it like so

parted /dev/sda rm 1

then create a new partition:

parted /dev/sda mklabel gpt
parted -a optimal -- /dev/sda mkpart primary ext4 1 16TB

double check you now have a 16TB partition:

parted /dev/sda print

It should show 1 partition now with size 16TB. If so, format it using

mkfs.ext4 -m0 -C 262144 -N 262144 -T largefile -O bigalloc,sparse_super /dev/sda1

restart the box and it should be mounted now. If this disk is ok...

You added an additional slash to /dev/sda in the last command. You need to type EXACTLY what I wrote.
