My box is Qviart Lunix3 4K with FBC tuner.

I am testing how many streams this box can handle. I managed to start 9 streams on PC via VLC. I could not start stream number 10. I started TOP via ssh and saw a CPU load of 5-10%.

Does the FBC tuner have any limits?
I tried 5 TP upper band of both H/L polarizations.
I use a twin LNB and can start a stream from 8 different TPs (H/L)

It isn't the tuner that has the limits, it is the SoC, in particular the number of demuxers the SoC has.

You can check using

ls -l /dev/dvb/adapter0/demux*

Plenty of demuxers. So your issue is elsewhere, I have no problem opening 14 VLC streams on my box.

Perhaps the SoC has other limitations, the Galaxy uses a BCM7252S, which is a SoC developed for DOCSIS and Cable implementations. Or there are network limitations.

Maybe others can check, there are more boxes with that SoC, for example the GigaBlue UHD UE 4K.

Otherwise, according to that statement, the max. number of streams 15 ?

That is what the driver says the SoC supports, yes.

I don't have the datasheet of the 7252s handy to verify that, sometimes drivers tend to lie, or they reserve demuxes for USB or SAT-IP tuners, etc. so not all of them are available for internal tuners.

I checked on a VU+ Solo 4K with a DVB-S2 FBC tuner, which has a better SoC, but also reports 15 demuxers.

I know some readers here have a Gigablue UHD UE 4K, a Xsarius Galaxy 4K, a VU+ Uno 4K, a VU+ Uno 4K SE, an Axas E4 HD, or even a DM900 or DM920.

They all use the same SoC, so if someone can test the number of streams that will open? No need for FBC, just pick a transponder with 14+ (preferably FTA) channels...

Not sure about maximum number of streams, but on a Duo 4K, solo 4k, GB UE 4k,with universal LNBs, you can record at least 30 channels provided you do not exceed limitations of the universal LNBs. On PLI, you will get the file push error that prevents this.

On Vix/ATV, there is bug and you cannot record that number. You get spurious timer conflict messages.

I have never tried maximum number of recordings with unicable LNB on a receiver with FBC tuners.

Hi,

with unicable you can use up to 8 transponder with the 8 demuxer. With universal LNB you can use 8 transponder out of 2 bands (high/low/horz/vert). Im not sure about streaming but for recording around 30 is possible if you record 3-4 channel from the same transponder.

I have a twin LNB, so I am limited to only one band (or one polarization). In the upper band (H/L) I can stream from up to 8 TPs. However, more than 9 streams does not work. I'll try the stream from one TP again.
