Just for information...

OpenBlackHole and OpenViX now have multiboot built-in for Vu+ 4K models (real multiboot, not open multiboot) using Kexec.

So if you load one of these as the base image, you can add whatever client images you want (PLi, ATV, etc), both in flash and on USB.

Compatibel with the current multiboot in enigma2?

actually it should be something pre configured by the manufacturer…

Yes I've just added OpenPli 8.3 to slot 2

But can you switch also to another image with openpli’s user interface? If so it would be nice to have a kind of package that can preconfigure the flash for it…. When it is actually done good than no special image is needed…

Hi, yes. e.g. you can have OpenViX as the base, OpenPLi on slot 1, OpenATV on slot 2. Then you can switch backwards and forwards between OpenPLi and OpenATV.

But to use USB slots you would need a simple patch that we could supply.

The code to add this feature to the base image is in the core. The rest is just tweaks in Python, but PLi already works as a client image.

It is as far I can see in the bsp… so vu should add it.

Vu were asked for years to provide multiboot but never did. That is why Eddi created this method.

This works really well and stable.
The problem is that not all images have the MultiBoot  image selector in the Standby & Reset Menu, especially the older ones.
I made myself a simple slot selector for those images.

It would be good if all teams add the MultiBoot  image selector to their images
or create a file for additional installation.

It works with multiboot images. So images like Vti, Vu factory image, etc, are not going to be compatible because they don't contain any multiboot code for switching between images.

Can you post the multiboot selector you made?

I'm not a coder
I made only the selection of slots possible based on the existing coding
in old py2 images
by changing the menu.xml, adding code in menu.xml and modifying the MessageBox
and adding the new RecoveryStart.py screen
Maybe the coding is not 100% ok but it works in all py2 images i have tested.
I'm sure you coders can do better with image names

example: for BlackHole but is the same for all PY2 images of course you have to modify their menu.xml

This solution or the approach to a solution results from the neutrino.
It's certainly an interesting and beautiful solution, but it's an intrusion into the existing bootloader system.

If you want to do this, you can do this via the path of the first image on the part of the providers described above.
I would appreciate not changing the bootloader.
As with many other receivers, this inevitably leads to constant changes to the bootloader / Flash-Layout.
To be honest, you can save yourself these unnecessary construction sites.

My opinion about it

In an ideal world, they would have done it 6 / 7+ years ago, but they didn't / wouldn't / couldn't and I doubt they will now either.
