Hi, can you please give me some hints on how to access my HDD disk from OpenPLi HD51?

Here is my setup:

- 6 TB WD Red Plus HDD connected to Raspberry Pi 4B via USB,

- ext4 filesystem on this HDD with a shared "Foldery" folder,

- Raspberry Pi running OMV (openmediavault) software for network storage,

My HDD is accessible from Windows PC's via Windows Explorer, Total Commander etc, as guest, I think.

However I am not sure how to edit options in Mount Manager of OpenPLi.

1) What should I put as "Local mountpoint"?

2) What should I put as "Host name"? The name of the fileserver as visible from Windows Explorer under Network?

3) What should I put as "Server share"? By default it was "media/hdd". Maybe it should be "media/net"?

4) What should I put as "Mount options"?

5) What about Username / Password? Is it necessary?

Perhaps some telnet commands to help remedy the issue?

Thanks.

This is my case:

On the NAS check if SMB/CIFS is active and give access to a username and password or give guest access. Next go to the OpenPLi box and go to Menu > Setup > System > Expert settings > Network > MountManager and then choose Add new network mount point. Here you will have to adjust 9 settings in order to make the connection a success.

  1. Active set it to Enable
  2. Local share name set it to any name you like (here I leave it as Sharename). It's the name you will see in OpenPLi when the share is a success.
  3. Mount type set it to CIFS
  4. Server IP here you enter the IP Address of the machine you want to connect to, remember is should be a static or reserved one (meaning it does not change when this machine goes on or off)
  5. Server share here you will have to enter the exact name of the path to the folder/directory on the machine you want to access. Notice and take look at the pictures CIFS has a different path than NFS, although NFS and CIFS where setup to the same machine!
  6. Use as HDD replacement if you want this, choose yes else no
  7. Mount options mostly you can leave this as it is.
  8. User name default is guest, leave it at that
  9. Password default is *, leave it at that

Now save these settings by pressing OK on your remote. When this done go to Menu > Setup > System > Expert settings > Network > MountManager and then choose Mountpoints management. You should see something like this and you can access the data.

What I don't understand is the server share, which by default was set to media/hdd. Should it be perhaps media/net?

Windows Expolorer shows the path to the shared folder as this: \\RASPBERRYPI4B\Foldery

"Foldery" is the shared folder name.

Should I put "Foldery" as "server share"?

Also, what about "Host name", which is not in the guide? SHould I put RASPBERRYPI4B?

Server share is the name of the share on the server, so on your NAS. So yes. it should be "Foldery".

On the box it will be mounted with "localsharename" in /media/net, and if you check "HDD replacement", it will also be symlinked to /media/hdd.

Hostname is a DNS name, not a Windows name, but the IP has precendence, if that is filled it (and it is advised you do for stability), hostname will never be used.

By the way, is it possible to "autoplay" MP4 files within a CIFS folder one by one?

There are some settings in the RECORD menu regarding behaviour but somehow I can't save them.

Hi,

I have ZBT-WE-826T 4G router with OpenWRT OS and 128GB microSD format to ext4. User name and password created with Telnet and movies directory created on root

This works nice with following setup on OpenPli 9.0

Expert settings/Network/MountManager

Active = on

Local mountpoint = Sharename

Mount type = CIFS

Server IP = 192.168.1.1

Hostname =

Server share = movies/

use as HDD replacement = on

Mount options = vers=3.0,sec=nntlmssp,rw

Username = *******

Password = ******

Expert settings/Recording paths

Default movie location = /media/net/Sharename/movies/

and same for all others

I only answered to this first question, cause Raspberry PI is linux based and many times OpenWRT in it. I can use USB dongle or USB Ext HDD also, but setting are same in OpenPli.

Samba4 and microSD or USB HDD format to ext4.
