No EPG the next couple of days, because lightning struck here.

And it took out at least a network switch.

And more seriously, my NAS.

At least I cannot reach him anymore.  But every try was with some makeshift connections.

First get a new network switch in and then we will know more.

But if the NAS is beyond repair (which I am not sure yet - because he seems to start up and running and going to sleep.) then we will have a serious problem, because all EPG stuff is stored on the NAS.

PS:  The NAS is a Synology one.

So people which have experience which a similar situation are welcome to give advise.

Hello Doglover,

When you'll have network again and if Synology NAS stay unreacheable, try to connect with it with Synology assistant.

Netwerk fixed.

However the LAN ligths of the NAS stay off.

Direct connection of the NAS to the laptop, did not bring anything new.

No connection.

Synology assistant cannot find anything.

Looks like the Network adaptor (and controller) are faulty.

Ordered a USB to RJ45 plug.

No spare mainboard around, on which you can install Xpenology?

Ok, when you start the nas, all hdd lights are blinking green and after a while each one become permanent green from the left to the right? If yes I think your system is safe.

Yes it does.

Therefore I think also it is still OK.

But first, restore access.

Bad news.

No access to the NAS with the Adapter.

The USB3.0 port seems to be broken as well.

The USB2.0 port still works, but is not compatible with the USB to RJ45 convertor.

(The network lights come on, on this port).

Ordered a new NAS. (DS423+)

Tomorrow more.  Hopefully I can migrate the drives.

Be careful for the migration. You can't simply remove hdd from 416j to install them in the same order in the ds423+. Read the rules about migration assistant in the Synology website.

Migration assistant is for when the old NAS still works.

For what I found is.

Install a temp HDD in the new NAS.

Install the software and configure.

Switch off the NAS.

Remove the Temp drive

Insert the drives from the old NAS in the same order.

Start the NAS.  And start praying........

Ok, what you have to know is that you can contact for free Synology support. They are very friendly, professional and have an excellent knowledge of their products. They will be able to confirm that this is the correct method or not.

Good news.

The new NAS arrived.

Configured it like I wrote above.

And the first thing the new NAS noticed was that I inserted 3 drives from the DS416j into the DS423+.
Asked if I wanted to migrate the data?

I answered of course:  YES!!!!!!!  pls.

45 minutes later, the NAS rebooted, and asked me to log-in.

It took me 2 hours to log-in.  My mistake.  On the old NAS I had defined that any log-in attempt would be blocked if it had more than 1 try.

It blocked then the IP-address.

So I had to change in the router the IP-address which was given to the NAS, and try again.

But I got in.  And it seems my data are still there.

So my first action to backup the EPG data (the scripts to automatize the grabbing)

And some other data.
