The Vu Zero does not take an internal HDD. You will need to use a USB caddy/enclosure. Better to you use one with an external Power Supply as the power on the USB bus may not be enough. One of my friends USB port stopped working.

Vu Zero supports only USB 2.0 that is generally slower. Also powering via USB is suitable for 2.5" HDDs. For 3.5" you will need eternal casing with external power or you will burn your USB port.
As @WanWizard said it will be slow....

I don't understand what you mean, but default Enigma saves recordings to a .ts file
Hardware: Vu+ Uno 4K SE - Vu+ Duo 4K - Fuba 78 cm - Tripleblock LNB Quad 19.2/23.5/28.2 - DS918+
Software : OpenPLi - OSCam - Settings van Hans - Autotimer - EPGImport

TS means MPEG-TransportStream, the format in which DVB is broadcasted. Which means data that is received can be written to storage without any overhead.
If you need to convert a realtime stream from MPEG-TS to MP4, you would need the processing power to keep up with the stream in realtime, even when 8 recordings are active simultaneously.
Not going to happen.

What exactly is the question?
VU+ has ended all support, so if there is a software- or hardware issue that only they can solve, it won't not be fixed anymore, we can't. as we don't have access to the source code.

Because there is simply no manufacturer left that can still offer ARM-Receivers
It is a sale of the existing and still high quality Boxes.
Alternatively, only Hisi is sold.
There won't be anything new in the foreseeable future.
VU+ or the dealers still have FBC tuners and excellent ARM chipsets as remaining stock.

I think the Duo 4K SE is (or was until recently) still in production. Maybe using old existing stock of BCM chipsets.
There's been a period that it wasn't available, but now I receive emails from shops that they have it in stock again.

Broadcom refuses now to provide SoC for OpenSource STB so no more "Enigma" based STB with BroadCom will be available. They reserved there SoC for proprietary (provider) boxes.
Only HiSilicon is currently providing SoC for "Enigma" STB.

Only HiSilicon is currently providing SoC for "Enigma" STB.
There is also AMLogic and STMicroelectronics ( the SH4 type boxes ). But both are a pain to get working.

Well...
I'm not sure there are still new boxes made with an ST chipset. I know Mutant was testing with AMlogic, and afaik hasn't managed (yes) to produce anything usable. Appearently the SDK is very Android focused and it's a pain to make working drivers...
But the chipsets are there...
