I just got an Xtrend et7100 v2 which should support h265 playback up to 1920x1080 resolution.

I tried such a movie but it doesn't play video, just audio and there is radio background with a message 'gstreamer plugin h.265 not available...'

Can the problem be solved?

Which image is actually used?

The et7100 was a successor product from GI in the name of Xtrend.
It is built here as et7000mini.

It is built without h265 support.

Why is the et7100 so active right now?

The latest release image 9.0. The chip has h265 hardware decoding support up to 1080p as I understand. I bought it new for 33 euros so maybe that's the reason why.

We are (currently) building without h265 support, which only has something to do with the hardware and more to do with the software and its encoding options.
This is the explanation for the fact that there is no gst/ffmpeg regarding h265 within the software.

Whether you should activate it or does it even make sense?

Difficult question.
Maybe someone else wants to take on this question.

You're quite right!

Switching to exteplayer3 in the serviceapp made the files playable and I didn't notice any stuttering or other issues.

Both 1080p and 408p h265 files play just fine.

Now I wonder if I should try openatv to see if the same happens on that image.

I just tried the latest openatv image and it's the same.

h265 files won't play without exteplayer3.

The images are identical.
Manufacturer GI briefly took over Xtrend.

Doesn't matter.
Support for the h265 may be possible similar to the Vu+zero.

So the solution is to add:

DVBMEDIASINK_CONFIG += " --with-h265"

in et7x00.conf?

I just checked oe-allience et7x00.conf and there is also no mention of " --with-h265" in the file which explains the same behavior as openpli.

OE-Alliance builds et7100 the same as et7000 and et7500.

It has now been adjusted accordingly. Because of the manufacturer takeover, 2 layers were made here.
You could certainly consider simplifying it here too.

The et7100 is also built with kernel 4.4.8

Elche's image is used by pli for v2?

The ET7000-mini has a BCM7362 and DOES NOT support H.265 (which is the box we build for), the ET71000 V2 has a BCM73625, which DOES support it. So they need different built features.

I use xtrend et7x00 image.

I had no idea about GI and how similar it is to et7100 v2.

I'd really like to use openpli image because it's faster than openatv according to my very short testing yesterday and I used it a long time ago on my dm500+ and xtrend 6500 I think so I'm a bit partial to it.

Xtrend as a manufacturer has been out of business for many, many years.

 

It looks like Galaxy Innovations does something that isn't entirely above board here, using a former brand name as a model, it smells like trying to trick consumers...
