The image illustrates why the remote control must be properly aimed at the receiver and why the box has poor side reception.

Reception can be improved by adjusting the sensor so that it is as close to the plastic as possible (the sensor legs are quite long).

It is also advisable to remove the protective cover from the remote controler.

It will never be like the remotes from older Dreamboxes, but it will be much better...

This issue is not limited to the H7, quite a lot of (cheaper) boxes have this problem.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

No more problems with any box...and all other remotes (TV, PS4, FireTV etc) can be trashed, too ;)

Another remote won't solve the problem of a poorly positioned IR receiver in the box, which is often the cause of the problem.

Harmony is dead. Logitech has pulled the plug. I still got a Harmony Elite for in the bedroom, but we aren't even using it as a "smart" remote. In the living room everything is controlled through CEC of by speech, which makes these kind of remotes obsolete.

However, in this case even a fancy remote won't solve the issue.

The problem with remote controls apparently started when manufacturers began using AAA batteries. To preserve battery life, they reduced the current to the transmitting IR diode. Moreover, they seem to neglect design considerations, as in most remotes, the diode is almost recessed into the body of the controller.

Zgemma "perfected" this on H7 by creating a small circular passage on the receiver itself, preventing the signal from reaching the diode from the side. The exception might be remotes for Mut@nt.

Another absurd cost-cutting measure is replacing rubber pads+carbon. The substitute in the form of "flexible" metal pads doesn't work properly even with a new remote.

Sometimes I try to increase the current to the IR diode, and I also make a parabola out of aluminum foil behind the sensor on the H7.

About Zgemma for some equipped with a CI slot you can barely remove the CI CAM once inserted because they don't  foreseen an ejection system, and there is no room foreseen neither for the fingers. So removing a CI CAM is really a pain on some Zgemma model.

About the RCU some box foreseen an external IR receiver that you can place on a better place so you can even install the STB behind the TV.

I have this with the Edision OSMio4K and also with the ABCom QViart 4K.

Interesting, they seemed to have found some surplus stock of the Broadcom BCM7251S.

Same as the H7, so probably just an "SE' version of it (odd they don't call it H7 SE, like they've done with the other models).

IRDA = infrared, usually used as an IR extender port ?

there is no photo of the rear side of the box, could be IR extender port, would mean better RC performance

If I noticed it right, the size of this ‘new model’ is like most other models like H5, H4, H9 twin etc., so much smaller.
