I upgraded to OpenPLI 9 yesterday,but could not find the install.ipk which was available in the python 2 feeds. I liked using this to install different ipk's. Will this be available anytime soon, or is there another ipk in the feeds which works in the same way? Oh, by the way, I do know I can install using DCC but its a lot easier with the install.ipk.

What ipk do you miss? When we have no sources of it we cannot port it to python 3….
Dcc is a tool you really do not need. With a standard browser/winscp/putty you can do the same and less complicated.

Its called Installipk. It's in the plugin feeds on OpenPLI 8.3 which I have been using for some time

You do not need it. Just put the ipk on the root of an usb stick and insert the usb stick

..or use "Media scanner" in plugins, to install ipk files in /tmp directory.

I've now tried both of the above options and they work on a few ipk's but not all. Tried installing newest version of Xstreamity -version 4.38, but this ipk was not visible in tmp by mediascanner, nor was it visible when I tried installing from USB. So it would be nice to have the installipk back in the feeds.

Then the ipk name wasn't correct. Which is an indication you've downloaded something that was either not ment for your box, or packaged by someone clueless to how it should work.

 

In both cases, my advise is to steer clear of it.

 

Besides, xtreamity is in the feed, so there is no need to install an ipk for it.

No, that's not it at all.
This version of Xstreamity worked well in PLi 8.3. There is nothing wrong with this ipk.The name is also correct by the way. It is just a newer version of the one in feeds, which is v3.5 I think (maybe time to upgrade feeds a little bit). The newer version has more options and is a much better app. In PLi 8.3 I installed with the installipk with no problems at all.There is no reason to steer clear of this app either. Just get the installipk back in the feeds if possible.

Which ipk of unknown origin are you referring to? Installipk -which is in the PLI 8.3 feeds,but not in the PLI 9.0 feeds, or the updated version of Xstreamity (https://www.linuxsat...yer-new-thread/) in which you have an old version of in the feeds? None of these are "unknown".

Which ipk of unknown origin are you referring to? Installipk -which is in the PLI 8.3 feeds,but not in the PLI 9.0 feeds, or the updated version of Xstreamity (https://www.linuxsat...yer-new-thread/) in which you have an old version of in the feeds? None of these are "unknown".

 

I would say the correct question is the same as I asked at the top of this page ."Can we get Installipk back in the feeds?

ipk's downloaded from forums are often made for other non-compatile images, poorly constructed, missing dependencies, contain the wrong files (causing a misery when trying to remove them) or are simply build for incorrect architectrures of library versions. And it may be changed by whoever packaged it.

 

So if you we provide the plugin in the feed, use that, so you know you are getting the correct (and untampered) one. If that is an old version (because we don't tend to update anything in release versions to maintain stability), simply ask us to look into it and we'll do. Instead of trying to hack your way around it.

 

And here is no plugin called installipk, and there has never been one.

So, there is no plugin called installipk? Are you sure? Well, take a look at this screenshot and tell me what you see. From the OpenPLI 8.3 feeds.

New to me. There was never a plugin needed, functionality for installing an ipk has always (and still is) present.

 

Turns out it was in the 3rdparty feed.

 

Everything in there was removed with the assumption that it wasn't Python3 compatible, and only added back when tested or replaced. It wasn't, so chances are it is not Python3 compatible and will therefore not work on 9.0-release and newer.
